Let's clarify that Liquid Metal isn't liquid metal.
No, depending on the definition, it is.
To be more specific, LM is an amorphous solid. So is glass. Ever heard someone say glass is a liquid?

10.4.0 was terrible. Tiger, in general, has been one big yawn.
I couldn't disagree with you more.
10.1.0 was terrible. And several things about Tiger have been welcome additions, I particularly enjoy Dashboard (although I know some people hate it, and I know Yahoo Widget Engine is an option as well, but not as good/seamless), and especially Automator. Automator has been absolutely wonderful.
Not to mention that my older computer actually saw a noticable speed increase with Tiger vs. 10.3. Sure, it wasn't as revolutionary as OS X when it first came out, but to me it was the best 10.x release thus far.
Also, I didn't run into any bugs at 10.4.0 other than the left/right audio balance bug (which I believe stuck around til 10.4.3).

Jon Stewart seems to have goofed here, and there's the problem. There's no way unring this bell. Jon missed about 90% of the story, and according to his views, opening a criminal investigation is ....
i don't think jon was trying to 'report' the story.. i mean, come on -- he speculates a guy named Nerdlington J. Techsupport was using the prototype to pick up women in a bar..
the iphone situation was used as a lead-in to what he really wanted to get off his chest which begins around 5 minutes in at the camera3 part..
arguing about the legality & stewart's nonfacts etc of the iphone case doesn't make any sense (well, not in this thread at least)..

The base model has a 5660 @ $800.
What base model? I was looking at the 3797$ configuration you linked, which has 1663$ CPU in it..
BTW, X5660 (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47921) costs 1219$... A config with that is around 3000$.
I have no idea what you are trying to achieve since no matter how much you try to justify it or post false specs and prices, it won't make the SP Mac Pro any better value. It costs a lot more than Dell's equivalent. Period.

wonder how this effects people(me) with a 4-5 week window that ordered last week ?
I know I'm in the same boat, ordered the 16th of March, ship by April 20, Deliver by 23rd, at least that's what it says right now. Hoping to get bumped up..

Shouldn't leaking trade secrets be some sort of civil contract violation, rather than a crime you can be arrested and jailed for?
You'd think the right thing to do would be to fire and fine them. What is putting them in jail going to accomplish?
No, leaking trade secrets is a crime. What confuses many people is that trade secrets are usually kept secret by contracts; for example my employment contracts forbids me to tell people about future plans of my company, so telling the world would indeed be a breach of contract. But that contract is really what keeps the information secret: If I was allowed to tell you, then it wouldn't be a trade secret anymore. And therefore telling you would be a breach of trade secret and a crime.
On the other hand, people think they are allowed to leak trade secrets because they didn't sign an NDA: If it is a trade secret, then you are not allowed to leak it (for example if someone who _was_ under NDA told you about it). But if a company is careless, then things that were supposed to be trade secrets may stop to be trade secrets.
Not my point. I was reffering to working conditions in China and that these poor workers just do not quit thier jobs if they do not like them and get another job in another factory.
If anyone doesn't like their job, they can quit, they can stick it out, or they can try to improve things. What they cannot do is commit crimes. And who says that these crimes where committed because someone was unhappy with their job? More likely just a case of greed.

I guess the question is are there enough iPhones out and about to provide good traffic data?
I mean will there be enough iPhone 3GS/4/(whaever the new version is called), will the traffic information be sent in the background even if I never use the built in Apple application?
Oh man, you have no idea! On the navigation map while driving, you see icons of other WAZE users around you, there are hundreds all around the map. I had so many occasions where I would stop at a traffic light and see so many icons around me, look to the sides and see other WAZE users with the app running in their car. :)

Apple should just buy Netflix.
Why would Apple want a bunch of warehouses full of DVDs?

Hello,
I don't want to start a Mac/PC/Hackintosh debate. Yet what those hackintosh prove is that Apple is charging a "Mac Pro tax" of around 1000$, +/- a few hundreds depending on configuration. Even if that tax was only 500$ +/- a few hundreds, the question remains: why?
Now don't answer that it's the general Apple tax. How can Apple sell the iMac, which offers very good power (some even rivalling the MP), very good graphics on everything but the base model, an incredible display, more RAM than the base MP model, for a very very good price? Add to that the fact that iMac are rumored to be upgraded in the next few days/weeks with Sandy Bridge.
So again, why does Apple charge that MP tax?

I like the title! I am fortunate (or unfortunate depending on how you see it ) of actually having the name Job. I remember when I bought my first mac many moons ago and actually thinking that his name was pronounced the same as mine except for the "s" at the end. :p

Wow, those Digg comments (re the banner photo) have a lot of wasted hopes :D Joysticks? Backlit MacBook non-Pros? Nano playing video? 64-bit image means ALL Macs are now 64-bit? No, none of the above.
All I see NEW there is:
* A black X and Leopard print on the Leopard DVD. Not bad looking.
* Some slogan about making OS X the "dominant platform" maybe? Nice to have something to shoot for ;)
And I see the old tower, which suggests no new case design. (But a collage of products that includes some past or soon-to-be-retired ones isn't 100% impossible at a developer event.)

It would be interesting to separate out the corporate vs. personal computer purchases. It is hard for Mac to get much above 5% when corporate puchases are included. BTW, it would be interesting to see how many of those "computers" are just dumb terminals used in stores and schools etc.
Remember, there are lies and there are statistics.
The survey was a consumer survey, not a corporate procurement department survey. So that 18% figure for desktops and 17% for laptops appear to be the percentage of consumers that are considering a Mac purchase. As a poster pointed out above *planned* purchase doesn't necessarily translate into *actual* purchase, but it's definitely an encouraging sign to se 15 to 20 percent numbers for consumer purchases. I think Apple would be ecstatic to get 15% of
the consumer market this holiday season. I don't think Apple is even considering any significant corporate push now. Apple knows it has a much better chance of success in the consumer market.

Not until November 7th? Ugh. :(
Hmm.. Released date on this (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/RGNCS/3-/1612725/New_Apple_iPod_Shuffle_1GB_Silver/Product.html#) site is 01/10/06, I guess that doesn't guarantee they'll have any in stock on that day, but seems considerably sooner than Nov 7th..

Talk about unfeasbile. I'm not sure any of the claimed statements here about economics have any connection to reality.
Can you explain why no ink, no paper, and no army of delivery guys would still cost the same as digital distribution? Even with Apple's 30% and the bandwidth cost of shipping thousands of 10mb magazines, it'd still work out cheaper for users and make a profit for the company.

I continue to be amazed by the number of students at my community college that have iPhones. These are students who for the most part are struggling to make ends meet, yet were willing to spend their limited cash that way. There are at least two or three students with iPhones in each of my classes; two years ago, I didn't see any -- and mine was a curiosity to them.
