This is almost as bad as powerbook g5 rumors.
Goddamn.
Shut up!
I wasn't around for the PB G5 rumors.
Were industry analysts the ones speculating on that like Shaw Wu is on this?

I tried to sit through "Best of Show" but it turned out to be a real snooze. I dropped by the lounge area around 3:30 and 4:30 -- didn't see any MR folks.

Often times, for firmware updates, the fans go full blast during the firmware flash process.

Lol random thought:
Used Mac Pros aren't the most reliable things in the world either, sadly.
Elaborate on that.. My 2006 was a used mac pro though didn't keep it too long, once I found out about the EFI 32/64 thingy because at the time I wanted to run windows 7 64-bit on it. Then once I sold the I then jumped up to the 3.00 ghz Harpertown 3,1 mac pro. I sold that for 1950.00 to a private individual in July 2010.. and then finally got the 2009 4,1 mac pro refurb from Apple.. at the time it was 2349.00 - 1950.00 = 400 bucks for a 2009 refurb..
As if THAT wasn't enough.. then in September and October made the jump and for 300.00 bought the 2010 backplane board and processor board - my transition to a 2010 westmere was complete.. In December, I got rid of the w3580 for the w3680 at 700.00 dollars in late Dec-early Jan 2011..
And now I am at odds about further expanding this thing as I now realize that the 6-core monster I have and all I did to get the "latest and greatest" is now at a stand still. I don't do video editing at all, nor do I have a desire to do so. What I use my mac pro for is easily done day in and day out on my PB G4, but just a little bit faster(everyday tasks).
And last night just placed an order for 500.00 a G5 Quad - I miss this mac so much that I had to have it.. for 500.00 I got 250/500GB hard drives w/it, 8GB PC2-4200 memory, video card is Geforce 6800(not LE)..
Now I need to figure out how to get the 24 inch LED Cinema display to work with it.

In some cases, yes.
Which ones? Do tell. Are non-Muslims not allowed to drink alcohol? Are non-Muslims forced to perform obeisance five times a day?
Why should you know? You'd have to ask her, not that it's any of your business. Who knows if "the male" in Western cultures actually wants to wear a suit and tie?
Are you arguing for argument's sake? I don't know what you are getting at here...

On the issue of installing software and copying music/movies without a disk drive. Am I the only one that avoids disks as much as possible already? If I can't immediately download an application I'm considerably less interested in purchasing it. I can think of only two pieces of software I bought this year that came on physical media and one of them was Logic. I've downloaded about 18GB of software just since yesterday (some Adobe demos and Steam games) and I hardly have the best connection in the world. I'm ready for physical media to die.

I was AMAZED to see a video on my iPad off CNN of people in the affected areas of Japan calmly walking through a food store with 90% empty shelves. Calmly, quietly picking up one or two things here or there placing them in the cart and moving on. An interview of a shopper through interpreter announced "This is the only store with any stock...." and yet it was a peaceful as can be. :)

My two favorite updates of everything steve pulled out of his pocket are the shuffle...way cool and finally the itunes logo gets and update to blue(love it)
if you install itunes and then got to customize there is a phone driver that is disabled, has this always been there????

EDIT: Found it, looks like it's all still II. Wow, that's a major drag for a machine like this, particularly one that is offered with SSD options.
No, it's not. Outside of benchmarks and spec sheets, you'll never be able to tell the difference.
Another moot point, though, since no TBolt devices can be purchased.
I would say the fact that no-one will be buying an iMac expecting to extensively use high-bandwidth peripherals is the more important reason why it's moot. Similarly with only using 8 PCIe lanes - it's not like the machine is going to be used for much where the GPU is bandwidth constrained.
If the ports weren't independent, it would have to say 'Two 10-Gbps data channels between them' or 'Two 10-Gbps data channels but under full load they're 5-Gbps'
That TB has "two 10Gb channels per port" is simply a part of the spec - *all* TB ports have two 10Gb channels.
It says nothing about the controller or bus those ports are sitting on. You could put a TB controller on a 32-bit PCI card and it would still have "two 10Gb channels per port" (well, strictly speaking it's unclear whether you can put a TB port on a regular expansion card, but hopefully you get the idea).
TBH the 27" IMac is sounding very tempting with the double TB and SB
why on earth is the HDD not sata-3
Because it's irrelevant. You're not likely to ever be doing anything on these machines that's constrained by SATA2 in a meaningful fashion.
i was planning on copping an IMac for my family home, as my parent and sisters love my MBP - but i really do not care if the IMac CPU is 10-15% faster, when the hdd only links to sata3 - as i would of put an owc ssd in!
The faster CPU and GPU will be far, far more noticeable than having a drive - even an SSD - attached by SATA2 vs SATA3 (or, heck, even SATA1).

Agreed.... but I think to most (at the time) the Mac OS wasn't even considered. Macs were "toys" only used by "artsy" folk
The general view of the Mac has changed alot in ten years.
I don't know about that! The comment about people perceiving the mac as a "toy" or used by "artsy folk" isn't too far from today's perception of the mac.
Even Apple markets the mac primarily based on the strength of "Home Entertainment", "Fun movies", "music", "photo albums", and "graphic arts".
Business today is still miopicaly tied to Windows for applications and Linux for servers.
Macs are much more prominent with artists, graphics designers, video professionals, and hollywood than they are in the general business population.

I maxed out my 4GB late '08 system last night with three massive pictures opened in Photoshop at the same time.
I can easily max 4GB with just Safari, EW's Multisim and some Pages working. Trust me, I need the 8GB and my Collector's Edition MacBook will be happy to get this update.

Again, anyone know if this will work under 10.5.8?
The page http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3 says you need MacOS 10.6.6.
"You must be running Snow Leopard to address 8GB on these systems."
Did you look on the site before asking your question here?
