One may choose to sleepwalk with this complex (superiority?) that I am not one of them, but the reality on the ground is different. Our cause is hostage to bitter politics and guess what the only way at this point in time we can possibly achieve our goal by playing the politics right.

Education is always a good investment. You may do it for GC or for any other purpose. But my advise would be to pick a good reputed school that you can handle and do something that would help your career.
ALways go for reputed - amongst top 100 colleges. I was admitted in top 25 but didn't take it due to higher fees. I ended-up doing from a top 50 but still I see people who took reputed colleges despite fees and other issues and they are having the last laugh.

Amsterdam- you don't need transit visa, same with brussels or Frankfurt

We have booked flights to Mumbai via Amsterdam (KLM -NWA). Do I still need to get a transit visa, even though our flight will be halting for few may be 3-4 hours at Amsterdam. I am super confused. Please guide.

Friends, I Received the magic email today!
Yes - I cant believe my eyes, my I-485 has been approved today and card production ordered.
I do have a question: I could not file for my wife's i-485 in July/2007. So, we filed for my wife's application on Aug/01/2008 (Did a overnight express mail on July-31st) as my PD is current as of Aug-1st. So far her application check has not been deposited.
What will happen now? Is she out of status? I am getting really concerned. Gurus help me out?

How to know if name check has been done. Is there a number to call to confirm NC clearance?.
We had FP on 9/19 and saw LUD on 9/20. Called FBI yesterday and they say they sent results to uscis. Does it mean FP and NC clearance? Or NC is a separate entity. Please, let me know

FYI - last year I was current on August 1st and got my green card email on August 30th. There were plenty of people who did not get it that month and got it following month.
If I were you, I would what ever you think helps your case but looking at how things happend last year, I really dont think anything helped. But I did talk to my congressman and also created SR. I think, if you search for threads titled August 2010 approvals etc you will find everyone went through what you are all going through now.

As you probably know, Employment Based immigration is currently showing years of retrogression; more than 350,000 labor applications are stuck in the backlog centers and there is no information on when we can see even a ray of hope. Applicants have to wait for their green cards for as many as 4-7 years, depending on the country where they were born. With retrogression, applicants are unable to complete their final phase of green card even if they have cleared all the previous hurdles. We, a group of volunteers at www.immigrationvoice.org . We have set up a non profit organization to work towards resolution of these problems.
In the past we have seen that due to a lack of professional representation, employment based immigration issues have been ignored by the lawmakers. The latest example has been dropping of section 8001 & 8002 from the Budget Reconciliation Bill passed by the congress in December 2005. With comprehensive immigration reforms on the anvil in the early part of 2006, the time to act is now. However, with the current political scenario and the overpowering debate about illegal immigration, this is going to be an uphill battle. We have already initiated talks with professional strategists who have in the past been able to achieve goals similar to the ones we are working for. We feel that these are the following ways a professional strategist can help:
1. Identify feasible goals that can be achieved and are representative of the people in this forum. We should not have to piggy back on H1s or illegal immigration - we need an identity of our own
2. Identify the champions amongst the lawmakers, alliances, organizations who are willing to shoulder some or all of the responsibility in passing provisions to solve retrogression & address labor backlogs centers.
3. Identify opportunities to meet/interact with those mentioned in point no 2.
4. Help us in putting our points across cohesively and in a way relevant to the political situations
5. Keep a close monitor on the progress and the situation so as to identify the opportunities as they arrive.
Hiring professional strategists requires several thousands of dollars. If we hope to counter some of the anti immigration propaganda, we have to accumulate funds to the tune of atleast about $100k. Hi,
I am a new member based in CT. I am glad I attended the december 25th meeting at Stamford, CT. Himanshu presided over the meeting and gave us lot of new information about what's going on in the immigration world and how Immigration Voice is helping out.
I think instead of fighting our battle alone if we come together and voice our problems there is a better likelihood of a positive outcome. Immigration voice can help us channelize our efforts and get the necessary immigration status.
I don't want to wait half my life getting my green card. Life is short and there is no guarantee about anything but I urge everyone affected to join this movement. We are in a capitalistic country and nothing ever happens without necessary funds so I urge you to please donate generously. If you never buy a lottery you can never win it . It's a bad analogy but I hope you get the point :)

I think Sergey Brin, one of the founders of google immigrated to US as a kid, i.e. not on EB quota or H1/L1.

If the law is changed. All dates will be current. if it's not changed your date from 2005 means squat. There are abt 200K ppl in the line ahead of you.. no way you are getting anything this life.. maybe you can leave your PD in inheritance to your kid born in India :)

Go for the better job... Nobody knows what's going to happen. I wish I had done that 3 years ago. :(

Otherwise, you may get stuck with a bad job, a bad company, a bad boss and still not getting your green card, either because of the backlog or unforeseen lay-off. At that time, you will realize you have got nothing... That feeling really sucks!!! :mad:

What if VISA is not given .. can you come back?
Valid I 94 is good enough at port of entry (even if your visa in your pp is expired)... as long as
1. your stay in canada is not more than 30 days
2. you did not appear for the visa interview (@US consulate) in canada.
3. You are not from a terrorist sponsored contries such as Iran, N. Korea etc.
This is called as "Automatica visa Revalidation" rule.
In other words if your visa is rejected @ the consulate and if your visa in passport is expired, you CANNOT come back to USA (using 30 day "automatica visa revalidation" rule).

this is my experience - I efiled for myself for EAD only (no AP applied so far - we had been to India recently) and I got a FP notice. for my wife, we renewed by postal mail and she didnt get any FP notice -- we already recd her EAD card (in roughly 25 - 30 days).
I had efiled mine few days before her and so
far nothing - only soft LUD's.
and yes ..EAD was renewed for only one year ..so I guess USCIS still treats this as a cash cow !!!http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif
