I'm debating this as well. I think I'm just going to end up buying the Ipad 2 16gb for $100 more. I don't need 32gb.

Well if anything I could stream all of my content from my PC with Zumocast. the 32 would be a convenience since I could store movies onto it when I travel. If I were to purchase the 2 I would definitely purchase the 32, about $680 with taxes. It's a $240 savings but I'm not sure if it's worth it?

With all the advancements in Apple hardware ready to appear in the next couple years, I'd be hard pressed to buy any new hardware until the next rung of technology is incorporated in their products.

Hm, that pretty much sounds the same as the difference between conservatives and liberals in the US for the most part. Hope they don't try to take away your universal health care!

The Conservatives are for some privatization, or as they call it "alternative delivery", but I doubt the population will allow them to completely privatize healthcare. Normally I'm for a smaller government, but when it comes to healthcare you can only either trust the corporations who make lots of money off of you when you're sick, or you can trust the government. In this case I trust the government a lot more.

3DS game prices are the same as DS prices in the UK. 29. I imagine they'll drop to 25 in some shops after the launch period.
Surprised to see the console price plummet so much on Amazon too. 185! Cheaper than a PSP Go. I must say it's tempting but yeah, unless anything changes with the launch lineup I'll just wait till Zelda hits.

Ocarina of Time also has the Master Quest too, so, w00t!

I predict we'll only see upgrades to four things, two of which could swing either way:

    Most likely:
    1) Sandy Bridge processors
    2) Thunderbolt I/O

    Probably/Hopefully:
    3) Bump up in standard SSD space. Maybe from 128 GB to 256 GB standard for the 13" and from 64 GB to 128 GB standard for the 11". Hopefully there will also be more BTO options (upgradable to 512 GB, for example)
    4) 4 GB RAM standard across all models (at the very least standard for the 13"). And again, hopefully with more BTO options.

Lastly, I'll predict that battery life will either stay the same, or improve slightly.

Anything else, I just don't see Apple upgrading, e.g., higher screen resolution, back-lit keys, dedicated ethernet port, etc. I predict Apple will continue using the same aluminum casing for a couple of reasons. Namely, it was just redesigned Oct and Apple tends to stick to a certain design for a few years, give or take. And the fact that the Airs have been selling well also indicates Apple has no real need to change it too dramatically.

Of course, this is assuming there is even a refresh this Summer. I hope so.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and there will probably be an upgrade in the graphics card.

EDIT 2: Judging from the history of Airs, I wouldn't be surprised if the RAM remained 2 GB standard.

Gotta love the old dinosaurs, they never want to adapt to new technologies...

Who cares if its being shown on a TV or an iPad? Obviously the iPad app owner must be a cable subscriber to view the content, so its paid for.

This demonstrates that Adobe is a bunch of morons. If they listened to Apple and used xCode they could click one button and produce a universal binary.

Perhaps Adobe writes ****** software that isn't engineered to be platform independant.

Not for things that make hardware calls - it's not as easy of a compile.

    Yes you can.

I installed XP on a new HDD with only one large partition (NTFS) without the 200mb EFI partition from OS X. I didn't use Bootcamp at all.

So far, everything's working fine and I can boot between OS X and XP with no problems.

That's really interesting! You just held "c" at boot to load up the XP CD?

I'm guessing you still needed to use a "slipstreamed" XP SP2 CD with the SATA drivers installed so it doesn't run in dog slow PIO mode

Where the hell did you find chipset drivers, graphics card drivers, sound card drivers etc?

[QUOTE=HobeSoundDarryl;12235279]"Now with airplay" seems too far down the benefit list to drive many sales of TVs. I doubt it would be touted in any mainstream way- just as another line item of something else the TV can do. I don't picture people choosing to buy new TVs because they come with that particular benefit.[QUOTE]

Apparently you don't understand just how many iOS devices apples has sold.

Who cares??? its a $500 device that can replace all computer needs of any student. Period.

When was the last time you were in a university class? No offense, but before the iPad came out, I said I would purchase one if it did everything I needed it to do (word processing, FULL internet, music, and email). Unfortunately, it doesn't multi-task, and it does not do the full internet.

Gives us a nice goal to get out of Afghanistan have finished. We got him and destroyed his network ability to launch large attacks. And hopefully but Afghanistan into a position where the moderates will be in control.

Were we ever going to stop terrorism with guns? No, but thats a long term battle we need to be fighting. And its one that starts with leaving Iraq and Afghanistan.

First of all, i don't know how legit this is, but for argument sake let the OP be true.

I can see Apple giving the developers of Infinity Blade and Real Racing an iPhone with the A5 chip. Is it the iPhone 5? No. It's just an iPhone 4 + A5 chip.

The actual iPhone 5 will have much more features. Apple always does this, because at the end of the day they're a business and they will add features which they omitted from iPhone 4. To get everyone to upgrade.
I think iPhone 5 is Apple's top secret atm, hence we're barely hearing anything about it and it'll be May in a couple weeks.

If the iPhone 5 is to be launched in September, then it'll probably have killer features or else it makes no sense right?

I highly doubt Apple will call the next phone, iPhone 4S. It makes no sense.

    iPhone = iPhone 1
    iPhone 3G = iPhone 2
    iPhone 3GS = iPhone 3
    iPhone 4 = iPhone 4
    iPhone 4S = iPhone 5 ?
    iPhone 5 = iPhone 6 ?

see what i mean? They'll probably stick to iPhone 5, or they'll adapt Roman Numerals.

    Now, regarding LTE/4G.
Majority of America isn't ready for LTE, forget about the world. So I don't understand the need of it for this year's iPhone revision, but it makes sense for 2012.
What will you be extracting from the cloud that will require LTE? Will you be rendering 3D models on the cloud or something?

If someone is going to specifically test disk read/write speeds then one needs to also look into and see if the SSD is the Toshiba or Samsung model. I for one have the Samsung model and scored higher on the disk test then his model.

+1 for at least testing a MBA with 4 gigs of ram.

I agree. I have 13 with 4gb ram. I have the slower TS128 and my Geekbench score goes from from 152 to 160. The 11" unit in test was in the 120's. I would think the 13" Ultimate would be above 160.

What I'm curious about is why blindly (for a lot of people) support a very successful band, wouldn't this have been a really nice little story if people rallied to buy a track from a smaller/upcoming band? Or maybe a real charity single or for something more deserving, like them soldier blokes or whoever.

Good points, but I think you're knit-picking. A smaller and more unknown song from a smaller and more unknown band wouldn't have had the same impact. Nearly everyone has heard of RATM, and I think that's what essentially sold it. The song, band and cause, all being about rebellion.

We've tried what you said before with something called Band Aid. The first time it was rather good and useful. The second time it sucked. The Americans also tried it and it sucked as well.

I think giving money to shelter is a very good thing to do. I'd certainly hate to be spending xmas alone on the streets, especially in this weather. Soldiers have a job, and it is their choice they wanted to join the army. By all means, they should get all the help needed, but I believe helping the homeless is much more kinder. Please don't shoot me down for that, I fully respect the troops fighting for us abroad, but it was their choice to do that, where as, being homeless, isn't.

We are working on a Facebook status update. Our app so far updates users via Twitter on daily things that get tracked. Glad to see Facebook become more iPhone friendly. If you have anything to track / improve in your life, have a look at Track & Share. Try the lite version for free. All the best to all Facebook fans,

i really wonder: why not "made in america" or "made in europe"?

They do (or at least certainly did three years ago, and I think still) make a lot of macs in Ireland. Macs made there have serial numbers which start CK. Apple were one of the top two employers there last time I heard (can't remember if they or Guinness were the biggest).

Well that would explain a lot. :D

But seriously though, it's not that much that is missing from .mac to make it worth the $99 without regrets.

    Like:

    - fully editable web calendar
    - fully editable address book
    - spam management
    - more storage (2GB would be sufficient)
    - make the Finder fast so iDisk is actually usable
    - web editable blog synched back to iWeb
    - possibility to show subscribed iCals in web interface without having to visit their site
    - integrate stickies into .mac and synch them

With those things, that would be fairly easy to do I don't think a lot of people would complain anymore.

And it's not really something completely new, just evolution of the existing.

    Agreed!

I tried the new .macmail on my G3/500 iMac this morning, and surprise, surprise, it was horribly slow. At this this morning on my XP box in FF2.0, the UI cooks along nicely. The server updates are slower than I'd like.

Get the calendar fully integrated online and I'd probably use my .mac email more than my gmail account.

OFFTOPIC: Firefox 2.0 has a new feature of spell checking what you are typing in any web window! This makes up for .mac's lack of on the fly spell checking which is great for me at work in the XP world.

Thanks Apple, you are getting much closer to justifying the .mac cost!

Capacitive home button sounds believable as apple has gone away with buttons on the MacBooks trackpad. Apple likes touch, not clicking. Lol

The button on the MacBook trackpad is still a physical button; it's just that the entire trackpad clicks, rather than a small area at the bottom.

Was there much chatting in the line or were people keeping themselves to themselves?

It was in patches. Some people kept themselves to themselves, others chatted in their small groups of people they already knew. People kept coming by asking us what we were queuing for, none of them looked at me seriously when I told them we were waiting to get into the Apple Store! I chatted a bit with the people around me, was interesting seeing who was there to buy Leopard, who was there just to test it, who was there simply for the T-Shirts and who was there lost in the queue cuz all they wanted was to come in and look around and buy and iPod, knowing nothing about Leopard!!!
My friend was late getting there, so I met him inside the store when he finally got in.
Was some professional looking videoing going on outside of the queue, anyone know who it was??
