Without a reciept or without a reciept from an authorized dealer, Apple would still have to provide warranty service from the manufacture date.
Doubtful since their warranty does not transfer to a second hand buyer. If I were to buy an iPod and then sell it on ebay a few weeks later the new owner would not be covered.

Someone needs to right some sort of program, app, script, or what-have-you to automatically change your desktop background to the latest InterfaceLIFT one. I'd pay for that :)

I just got a 2.8 i7 Quad Core iMac, and I wouldn't mind helping out if someone would outline the steps for me. I already installed seti@home, but the application is only using one core, which really bugs me. I wont be able to dedicate my machine 24/7, but on the down time, or when I leave the room I wouldn't mind leaving it on.

basically, there are 2 types of folding clients: a console (terminal) and one that runs in system preferences. most people here run the console client, mainly b/c you have more control.
are you familiar with running things in terminal? if so, all you do is download the client, extract it, move into that folder, and start the script with some options. here would be an example for you:
fah -smp 8 -advmethods -verbosity 9 -local
and you can stop that when you want by typing control+c.

Disappointed. Great for Wall Street and Steve's stock, but who's minding the computer side of the house? I think dropping the "Computer" from its name was the single most significant news of the show. What's next a new gaming console?
iPhone - revolutionary in that it raises the bar VERY high for other manufacturers...But it still smells like first generation to me. Behind the arguably flawless design, usability and performance issues are already being raised. Kudos to Steve and his enormously talented staff, but I'll pass on early adoption. But slick..oh so slick..No one is as good as SJ for coordinating such a project. Now let's see how it sells.
appleTV - mediocre offering at best. 40Gb is way too small to host any HD material. It just begs for an upgrade. Why should it be paired to a computer if it has a wireless connection to the internet? My Xbox360 already can and play HD games to boot!
- no news about MacPro (where's the eight core!)
- no news about laptops
- no update to iPod in the near future (iPhone notwithstanding of course, but what if I don't want or need the phone part?)
- Cingular exclusive deal has already alienated non-Cingular customers
- no new displays (HDCP compatibility)
- no "...and one more thing"
A significant watershed show nonetheless. I can understand the need to focus on the iPhone : there's so much to say about it and it would have surely stolen anything else's thunder. I'm just afraid the gadgets are taking over an AWESOME COMPUTER company and leaving all of us behind. I think some people here think this is suddenly going to allow us to drag an image from our desktop to the .Mac mail page, and attach it to a new message. That isn't what they are describing as "drag and drop". They are talking about moving messages around in the web browser window.

I need an iPod mini. The last one I had met with... an unfortunate "accident".
Doesn't particularly matter to me which gen it is, as long as it holds a decent charge (4 hours or more), and isn't pink. Well, I'll settle for pink, but at a discount.
