Hi all,
Can anyone give me your personal thoughts on the 20" iMac? I'm currently using an old Powermac desktop (It's a 4 -1/2 year old, dual 1 Ghz Quicksilver). If the Intel switch wasn't around the corner, I'd have a new desktop already. My main work is in Photoshop, Illustrator, and occasionally some 3D programs.
Anyway, I was thinking of getting a 20" iMac to hold the fort while I wait. Would I notice any bump in speed for graphics programs? (My desktop has been reliable but occasionally quirky). I'm also considering using the 20" iMac after it's out of date as a TV or as a display at exhibitions to show video or Flash movies of new products.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Whats the point of banning if they can just make a new user?
It lets them know that their posting habits were not acceptable and that they are no longer welcome. Some of these users leave for good because it's clear that this site doesn't suit them. Some contact us to blame us for their behavior while others contact us to debate the details of their situation.
And yes, some of them re-register. They are often identified to the moderators by users who recognize them, or are spotted by the moderators themselves. The people who get banned, i.e., users who break rules and are uncooperative in the first place, tend not to change personality and as a result often end up getting banned again for the same reason they did the first time. Very few want to play cat-and-mouse this way for long since they aren't able to use the forums as other users do. No doubt there are some re-registrants who haven't been caught, but there's not much we can do about that. There will always be immature users and we'll always need to rely on forum users to report their inappropriate posts, but the job of the moderators is to minimize the problems they cause for other users.

Did you try googling the obvious: palindrome python program
One of the top 10 hits is this:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=861800
nstead this sounds like an academic assignment/exercise/what-have-you.
A quick suggestion OP : If this is homework, do not try "googling the obvious" and especially do not copy/paste code from the top 10 hits. If it was that easy to find, your teacher already found it also and will fail you with good reason when you try to turn in "Internet" code.

As long as you sign up to be a safari developer (for free), then you are officially a developer to apple and can access the videos. So it is free to watch all of the videos, all you have to do is sign up with the safari development program.
Thank you, this worked for me

Well, I used the official documentation for the first aluminum 15" PB (which is what I have). It says to use a "dentist pick" to undo the clip. An allen wrench works fine, as long as you don't drop it into the optical drive like I did

Just joking...
hahahaha I bet you're not. :p :p
I'd go with Tribeworks 'iShell', Ben and Casey's 'Processing', Ambrosia's 'Snapz Pro' and finally Discreet for the awesome Combustion 3.

LOL :) Must get pretty bad at rush hour then; people standing up and all that...
Ironically rush hour's the safest part of the day. Bit difficult to get thrown across the carriage when you're wedged into someone's armpit :D

I'm a teacher who has brought his class every year to MacWorld. We always come on Friday. I don't think that any booths close down on Friday until the late afternoon. My kids like the fact that vendors are more willing to give away free stuff on Fridays.
So...I don't think it would be a waste of your time.
thats really cool for you to take them to macworld ! when i was at school our teacher took our class to the police station to have a look around - in a way most of my class seemed to love that place as they keep on going back :D

id much rather get a free one than pay for it, dont worry i'm not doing anything illegal so stop being nasty.
If I cheat on my significant other I'm not doing anything illegal. That doesn't mean that it's OK to do so.
I'd rather get a Mac for free too, but that doesn't mean I have so little self-respect I'd lie to get it.

It could, but it doesn't have that much space. I would hook it up to an external raid array.
I would recommend a Drobo S. (http://www.drobo.com/products/drobo-s.php)
It is not cheep, but I have 9 gigs of drives in it, 6 available. Great product, keeps your data safe, it's fast, and easily expandable.

I would try a factory reset before returning.
I assume when you said you`d reset it you simply meant shutting it down and rebooting it.
Traces of your JB may remain and you NEED to rule that out TOTALLY before looking at a hardware fault imo.

It sounds funny... but I actually have this poster hanging right by my big (4x8) drawing desk and use it all the time.
http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Periodic-Table-of-Typefaces/193759
I am not saying to buy it form this place, I dont work for or represent them, just showing the table thats all.
Doesn't of course tell you which ones are good BUT it lays out the "best" or most well known to pick from, which is why I use it very often when I am trying to get a certain feel. Picking a typeface for me is always by feel. Put one up there and see if it looks right and what your first impression is of the typeface. I have done projects that take 80+ hours and finished happy with the design and still not happy with the typeface (assuming I used one.) There really is no guide, yes there are them online but I would never use a guild like that to tell me which type to use, thats all part of design.

It's possible that some of the newer iLife and iWork features will require Leopard.
Also possible that they might announce them all together at a later date, and perhaps even sell a bundle package that includes iLife, iWork and Leopard at a slightly reduced price. I think they might do this just to make iWork more attractive to those that don't buy it now.

You mean do I respond to overblown media hysteria and people who don't really understand how cell phones work? No, not really.

You may understand how cell phones work, but do you understand how the bumper works?

Just to help others in the future, which exact two models do you have? Many people from time to time ask this question so it will be nice to know once and for all a BD burner that has no problems in a Mac Pro.

Hey Folks.
So today my boss mentioned that it would be really nice to use babel fish to translate our entire website much like what is being done here:
http://www.golfgolden.com/content/view/10/33/
with the babelfish box on the left side.
This actually isn't a bad idea over all, except when I try running our website (http://www.SkiBig3.com) through babel fish it breaks the DHTML drop down menus, I suspect this has to do with the fact that babelfish sticks the site into a frame but I'm wondering if anyone has or knows of a work around for this??
Babelfish is an abomination, useful only for laughs. Here's a paragraph from a German news website (FAZ.net) translated into English.
"Because on 22 July officials shot the innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, whom they had regarded as a terrorist. For Blair however the reproaches, it are more serious an independent investigation of the "Independent policy Complaints Commission" in the case Menezes to stop wanted."
