Ok, I saw this here once. It was a .css file, that when added to safari through some preference it blocked all those page embeded ads. What was it? I know of Pith Helmet, but I don't feel like installing something, I just want that file!

This is awesome. So far, my reason for not buying into the iPad hype is because I can't use photoshop on the iPad - nor many other productivity applications. This changes things a bit hope it'll come out soon!

I just switched. It was pretty easy. I just made sure to read all the fine print. I was super worried about extending my contract/losing unlimited data. Checked my data usage while I was there and I'm so glad I'm grandfathered in!

The eligibility rules in the U.S., which are observed by the Red Cross and other blood donation centers, are very broad in eliminating groups with risk factors, the same way your zip code or your sex might affect your insurance rates. So I can understand why safe or unsafe individuals are frequently misclassified under the rules.

What's frustrating to many, however, is that the FDA is so slow to update out-of-date rules based on what the science shows. I've read the research reports that show that the lifetime ban on most gay men is too strong a restriction. Whether it's intentional discrimination or bureaucratic sluggishness, they are ruling out many safe and willing donors in the name of safety. Some people blame the Red Cross, but those who want to effect change should lobby the FDA instead.

The questionnaire I have to fill out each time doesn't ask about sexual orientation, only about sex, but other donor centers might phrase the same questions inappropriately, implying that the rules are about being gay at all. I'd complain if I saw that. But it wouldn't change the rules, only the interview.

As far as the MacRumors Blood Drive goes, we don't want controversies like this to prevent eligible donors from donating now. That's why we ask those who can't donate, for any reason, to help with publicity and encourage others to donate.

Apple should quit wasting time trying to block jailbreak and work on adding features that other phones have had for many years and that users have been screaming for since the iPhone 1 was released.

Yep Bluetooth filetransfer for contacts and photos would be great. Well music too but
I see copyright concerns. But for your own
    Photos and contacts ?

I've decided I'm going to try it with the dock on the left for a change :) It's the new Ford Focus ST. BTW, the #1 site (imo) for car desktop backgrounds is Netcarshow (http://netcarshow.com), hands down. Nearly every current (and some old) make and model, all HQ. It's awesome.

Some of the customer reviews on the iTunes download page are very critical of the controls for some games. Not sure how well they've ported these to the touch screen interface....

Depends on if you look further than the displayed controls. By that I mean, with Tempest there is a slider on the left that lets you rotate around the play field and firing buttons on the right. However, what many miss is that you can control the entire movement around the screen by touch.

Same for centipede/millipede/etc. Apparently most have a simulated control on the screen but they also have touch capability for movement control on the game surface as well.

I called the Applestore before ordering and was told it shipped with the new headphones. I'm going to complain if it comes with the old ones because that is the excuse I used to justify ordering the Shuffle. I had just recieved a Nano as a gift the month before but wanted to upgrade the buds.

I just called Apple (after recieveing my old-style earbuds with my shuffle) and the rep told me that the orginal plan was to ship them with the new style buds, but that "Apple changed it's mind about this" and decided last week to ship then with the old-style ones.

I was like what the hell - thanks for telling those of us that preordered that we would be getting the same crappy headphones that I already have 5 pairs of....

If he's still living under your roof, you have ALL the say. If you don't feel he should be doing it, then it's YOUR choice. Yes, he's 18, but if he's still dependent on you it's your rules, not his. Now, there's nothing to say that he will follow them, but he should abide by your wishes. Personally, I think this is the wrong path for any person at age 18 to be going down, but I'm not the norm (I still plan on waiting until marriage; not because of what my parents think or my church thinks but what I think).

Keep in mind this is coming from someone who will be turning 18 in two months.

i don't see why so many people think iChat on a phone is so crazy or why it would need to be wifi.

i have a button on my Razr that is a direct connection to AIM so instant messaging from a phone isn't crazy, two of the people on my buddy list are on mobile phones.

iChat would be faster then texting and just cause this "second phone" would be very iChat based doesn't mean it wont be a phone. It sounds very sidekick like and the sidekick of course has AIM on it.

If they make a phone that will beat the Sidekick (shouldn't be too hard) then i'm in, i'd prefer that then just a a regular candy bar phone

But that is the problem. Instant messaging has been on phones for over two years. Why would they want to sell a phone on instant messaging if everybody pretty much already has a phone with IM already? There's no reason to buy it if they're going to advertise a feature people already have it on their phones.

And how exactly is IM faster than texting?

Care to give me some information? Wasn't Japan an ally to Germany? Didn't they attacked in Pearl Harbor?

Among other things we basically placed them under an oil embargo their need for natural resources and they're inability to attain them from us in a peaceful manner encouraged them to invade.

Also by your logic we are criminally involved in Iraq at the moment. Seeing as they were not aggressors against us, and we had no reason to invade.

Ok, so it seems the developer has kick up a bit of furore on this one.. ;)

Personally, I don't mind paying the 1.79 again to buy Tweetie 2 - at the end of the day it hardly breaks the bank. I'm not disgusted by it because he needs to keep making money somehow. (Although it looks like this developer may now be quite well off, judging by its ranking in the Top Grossing list ;))

But I do get this underwhelming feeling when I use Tweeite 2 - as it seems others do - and I think this stems from a few things:

    1) In some ways, the new app is not 'better' than the first Tweetie - the UI is not so nice (an opinion), the speed is not so silky smooth (less of an opinion, bit more fact) and it doesn't even seem to do everything that Tweetie 1 did. In fact, I'm struggling to see - for my uses at least - what this version achieves that the first one didn't. And the implementation is not so nice either. What is the 'killer app' in version 2?

    2) The idea that it was built from the ground up again. As the developer puts it - "I didn't just add a feature and change the version number. That's lame." Problem is, Tweetie 1 did not have any flaws or shortcomings in its implementation and was silky smooth and fast, at least for me. Tweetie 2 doesn't quite deliver that, which is why I'm left disappointed.

    3) Tweetie 1 had 'wow' factor, Tweetie 2 doesn't.

    4) The new icon is horrible (a matter of opinion, of course ;))

    5) In deleting the first app from the store, Tweetie 1 has been end of life'd. Therefore, this version effectively stifles any upgrades to version 1, including any potential bug fixes.

    6) The new version is underwhelming (did I say that already? :D)

Of course, one advantage of declaring Tweetie 2 as a whole new app is that it does give me the freedom to 'downgrade' back to Tweetie 1!!! I know which version of the app will be sitting on my iPhone's front page...

    Bertrand Serlet (Apple)
Apple today announced (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/03/23serlet.html) that Bertrand Serlet, senior vice president of Mac Software Engineering, will be departing the company in order to "focus less on products and more on science", although his specific destination remains unknown. Serlet joined Steve Jobs at NeXT in 1989, and transitioned to Apple in 1997 when NeXT was acquired and Jobs brought back to lead Apple.

Craig Federighi demoing Mac OS X Lion (Reuters)
Serlet will be replaced by Craig Federighi, currently Apple's vice president of Mac Software Engineering and who has led Mac OS X engineering for the past two years. Federighi is another former NeXT and Apple employee who spent ten years at Ariba before returning to Apple in 2009. Serlet notes that the transition should be seamless given Federighi's role in leading the current Mac OS X team.Serlet has occasionally appeared at Apple keynote and media events over the years to introduce Mac OS X-related features, and thus well known to longtime Apple followers. Federighi made his first public presentation since his return to Apple at last October's "Back to the Mac" event (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/20/live-coverage-of-apples-back-to-the-mac-media-event/), taking the stage to show off some of the features of Apple's forthcoming Mac OS X Lion.

The question asked of heterosexuals =/= asked gay and bisexual men. The risk factor for straight people is risky sex, the risk factor asked for gay men is not risky sex, but sex at all - even once. Its not the same thing. If there was no bigotry behind the question it would be raised this way to all, no matter what orientation "have you had unprotected sex with more than one partner in the last 5 years, if yes have you been tested for HIV?"

Arguments that gay people shouldn't be allowed to give blood? Really? I give way to much credit to society sometimes. Equating homosexuality to prostitution or drug use is so incredibly ignorant.

This. About ten million times. :apple:

The irony of a forum with a very large gay and bisexual membership to ask for blood donations is beyond ridiculous.

Think this through, MacRumors, think this through.

So, the solution for the Red Cross is to ask "Are you hetersexual, bisexual, or homosexual? If yes, do not donate blood.".

That seems like a non-biased solution to me.
