The important pieces to note about the marketshare is that this definitely is coming from switchers, not from upgraders. If you look at the data, you will see that it's broken up between MacOS and MacIntel. The data for MacOS is just PPC people, and that actually remained constant throughout the year:

while the marketshare for MacIntel has been a nice parabolic curve:

Notice Steve is the only guy without wine?
He is undergoing treatment for cancer.
What is so strange about him not drinking alcohol?

The question should be whether the economy would have been even worse without the tax cuts. The article does not address this.
How would one find the answer to this?
Coincidentally, I've been toying with moving to either Washington or Texas and I've finally decided that it's time. For the cost of taxes in California, I could pay my rent in Washington or Texas for the entire year. And I can't think of one thing the California state government provides that the Washington state government doesn't that I would really miss.
The weather sucks big time in Washington state, Texas is much nicer (so I hear). A great many natives of the PNW can become real excretory orifices when they find out you are from California.

Kinect is more for the kids. They really enjoy Wii Sports so if there's an alternative (or blatant clone) with decent graphics for Move or Kinect, they'll be happy. It'll be interesting what 'Family' type games are released for both the new motion sensing systems. If you're going to wildly flail around the livingroom, you may as well do it in HD.
I personally just want a shiny black 360 to put under the livingroom telly. King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match (and maybe '02 UM?), Mark of the Wolves and both Virtual-ON Oratario Tangram and Force. Just need Hori to do another run of Twin Sticks...

It's funny how the capitalists are all for a free market...until it starts working against them.
Beautiful! I wish I had said that. Do you mind if I quote you?
A person can buy DVD's almost everywhere. They do not need either of these creep shows. I doubt if I have spent a total of $100 combined between them. Wal-Mart (especially) just gives me a totally negative feeling. I will not spend my hard-earned there, regardless of what their prices are.

I disagree, very very small discount
Apple should have extended the full education discount of 14% to students. As much as I love Apple's products, they're very much an overly greedy company these days. They're also possibly being myopic, as students are highly likely to buy content for the device IMO
Very shameful Apple
Uh, why? How is it shameful? This isn't an item that is even remotely usable for studying with alone - what other electronics company does student discount on the scale that Apple does? The iPad is a glorified iPod touch, it is not a learning device (yet), not will it replace a computer in the home unless all you use is Facebook, even then you can't upload photos without the use of another computer.
Who cares??? its a $500 device that can replace all computer needs of any student. Period.
I'm tired of hearing this backwater lack of imagination. Every student should have an iPad, and the great news is that most can afford one, even without "discounts".
Sarcasm, right? Any student, it doesn't even fulfill the needs of half of all students. It can't print, for one! Nor can you put pictures or anything onto it without the use of another computer, so how exactly does it replace a computer?

No OSX, no sale? That is an idiotic statement. Tell that to 90% of the computer market. Tell me more about the post pc era.
Well, the point stands that some people are simply not open to the "other side" so these comparisons don't really matter to them.
If you insist on OS X then you're buying a Mac. You don't care about the "value" comparison because you have no choice but to buy a Mac. End of story.
If you insist on Windows then you're buying a PC. End of story.
(OK, not really -- it's possible to Hackintosh and install Windows on a Mac, but that's a very small minority of people.)
So these value comparisons are only useful to the subset of people saying "Well, I want a Mac... but I suppose a PC would do, too." Or vice versa. Arguably that's probably "many people" and possibly even "most people".
I've owned a Mac since 2003. Love them. Now I want something small and light. I am eyeing the 13" MacBook Air, and I want to take a serious look at the competition (e.g. Samsung Series 9). I've already owned, and sold, an Asus netbook. It had its uses, but in the end it didn't cut it.

This reminds me of a history project I had back in high school. We were to tally up all of our household (then parents house) goods made in china. The idea was to give us perspective of were our money was going. Obviously I found a lot of what I was looking for but I was more surprised of how little of our possessions were made in America. Even now, much of my possession are foreign made...mostly japanese and chinese

I don't get what's the problem with Garmin's view. Garmin decided to go live and have upto date maps and traffic alert. I can imagine they also have some sort of cash so you only have to d/l the map once and then it lives in your iphone. It also has an amazingly small footprint - weighs in at only 8mb and this is another cool feature of the program!
Well, that's the real question, isn't it. If it turns out this is the case, and it can cache the maps for an entire region, and if it's smart enough to grab the maps for the entire region that you're currently in and/or going to, for some appreciable radius, AND if it can keep the maps in the cache for as long as you need it (which might be "forever" for maps of your home city), then I'm willing to give it a try.
But others in this thread have already talked about driving through backcountry areas with no 3G access, and not having any access to maps. They've talked about travelling down a highway and "running out of map" and having to pull over so that the 3G can connect and refresh the maps. If that's the sort of user experience I should expect, then I'd rather stick to a standalone GPS receiver. Or buy one of the other GPS apps that have built-in offline mapping.
Garmin touts the ability to get the latest map updates and real-time traffic. Definitely useful for navigating within big cities with major highways, constantly-expanding suburbs and major road expansions in the works. But without map prefetching and caching, they are making their GPS app ONLY useful for these areas.
Eagerly awaiting real-world reviews...

Also, oopsie hardware releases aside, how would a "supposedly" early software build of iOS5 end up in the prototype phone of some guy in South East Asia? Hardware production is outsourced to Asia, yes, but software would be held pretty damn closely. Maybe I'm wrong?
BS- IMHO this is a shamster.

Or maybe people who simply prefer the 320 over the 3000?
I like to do some light gaming on-the-go, and while I have my M11x for that, I mostly carry around my Air now.
Before you tell me that the 3000 isn't as bad as I make it out to be, I have a 2011 13" Pro (i7-2.7/4/HD3000). CODMW2 on Medium settings on that, I can barely eke out 20fps while I can get 30 on my Air (although I did slightly OC the 320M).
nice and the new MBA version of the HD IGP will be even lower clocked and the slower processor will only make it worse

Are you suggesting it is harder to abort than to raise a child?
Oh no, you cant get away with logic like that here, especially as you are male.
Men should just butt-out of this discussion altogether, IMNSHO.

No way in hell. They've already asked their developers to change app resolutions once. 3 screen sizes will never fly with developers.
99.999% likelihood of this being total nonsense.
Okay... but look at the Android operating system... they ask developers to adjust their apps to every new Android phone that comes out, because the OS is slightly different depending on the phone. Asking them to change the resolution of their apps is not too big of a deal in comparison.

The gas price (EURO95) as of today (Netherlands):
€1,675/Liter <--> €6,35/US Gallon
€6,35=$8,90/US Gallon.
So.. It's always been expensive but this is bad.

The picture that is shown tells you how much cheaper (in %) the other countries are (compared to The Netherlands).

I'm kinda glad I waited on this, but maybe not. The trial versions of games online is almost worth the price. I don't know a good place nearby to rent games, and I'm not doing that Gamefly or whatever thing for $8 a month because I wouldn't rent THAT many. Those demos make it easier to commit to a game.
I just bought Star Wars: TFU today used. I got the Sith edition after the guy at the store explained it to me. You save $5 overall ($40 versus $15 for original and $30 for addons) and I don't have to clutter HD space that I may need later.
The Magic game I bought from the online store is awesome. There look to be a lot of other good online games as well. I do wish I didn't have to run a network cable across my floor, but I saved $150 doing that. I can find rug and cover that thing up if needed.
So awesome recommendation. The PS3 might be nice, but I love this thing so far.

This is not really new technology.
This is a very common device what is new is that someone is marketing it to Apple.
I agree... But sounds nice, but I just don't think it will pay off. Keep a fan spinning 10 mins longer may set you back around £5-10. + add's size an weight.
Nice idea, not practical

He's a shady character. The bankruptcy thing really bothers me. Once is bad enough. But 3 times? I know how these bankruptcy hearings go and aside from the fact that assets are hidden, other people have to eat the losses.
