gnasher said to print out the call which I had done previous. There are no typos. But in fact I do have the same problem running it from the command line. Where does the & go?
You have a loop. The "system" command is executed each time in the loop. So when you enter "Q" to exit the loop, all the commands are executed again. That's what the printf should have shown you.
So what happens when you execute the second system () call? I don't expect it to work. I expect it to overwrite the output of the first system () command.

still not given up.. though its fading.
i've now tried custom firmware making sure im in pwned dfu mode for 2.2.1 and 3.1.3 using both pwnagetool and sn0wbreeze.
all return error 6.
tried using itunes 7.7 on windows but that cannot connect to software update server...
im pretty certain its not on ipad baseband now. i've added the ecid to tinyumberella but it doesn't see it and 'fix recovery' option fails.
also tried using ireb then sn0wbreeze custom firmware- no joy.
tried pretty much all official firmware.
has anyone seen this sort of error before and it be hardware related?

Oh, also I've got another question. (well a few actually)
Will the Xbox 360 with HD DVD drive have better quality than my current circa-2001 Sony Progressive-scan DVD player hooked up over component for DVD's? Basically, should I hold on to my DVD player or will it be unneeded?
Also, I don't have a 1080p TV right now, I'm using a 32" square CRT HD-ready one I got 5+ years ago. Does anybody reccomend any TV's that are:

Hmm... After it's done with the first CD, and it's rebooting, the CD is still in there, right? I believe that the mac continues to boot off the first CD until the second is needed. The HD isn't booted from until the installation has finished. Once it's done with the first CD, and restarts, try holding down the "C" key to ensure it doesn't try and boot from the HD.
Well, after it reboots it is booting to the CD but it comes up with the intial install screen all over again.
What is weird is the last thing it does before it reboots is the system optimization which I think is the very last thing that happens before the install is complete. But it is still on the first CD.
Thanks for your response, I wasn't expecting any responses till after the Macworld hysteria calmed down.

10! (coz I am a fanboy :):))
That's normal that you mostly see people posting about their problems or they want to bitch about something. You know, it's kinda like this: sunny weather and nice breeze don't make a headline :)
The idea behind iMac is that you just take it out of the box, plug it in and within a couple of mins, you're on the internet and doing your own thing. There are people who want to push hardware and software to their limit, but again, that's actually minority among iMac users.

This is what alot of people believe but try and find a 1080p HDTV in the UK that can display 1080p from a source other than HDMI. All the major brands of HDTVs I looked at will only display a 1080p from HDMI although you can use component to display 1080i. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying a 1080p set though.
Matt
Fair enough, though there still aren't many sources of 1080p content in the UK.

Your MBP does not have the SATA III connection required to get the max performance out of the M4. Your MBP has only a SATA II connection, so even though the M4 would work it will not give you peak speeds shown in benchmark tests.
Look at the test at the top of this page (http://www.anandtech.com/show/4253/the-crucial-m4-micron-c400-ssd-review/8) that shows overall system performance. Note the M4 at a SATA II connection and the Intel 320 are about the same speed.
With the same performance and better price and reliability of the Intel, I hink Intel is your best choice.

Just from people that have it installed, are the rumours from TechCrunch true regarding it being a golden master?
It seems like Apple have a long way to go regarding what they've posted in known issues, so how can it be a golden master already?

that's strange. I have a dual 1.8 G5 and that delivers about 200 points per day easy (both procs together), when it's folding 24/7. I have a 2.0 P4 at work and that's doing a bit less then 1 1.8 G5. So, with your setup:
dual 2.4 = 200 points
3.6 Xeon = 150 points.
But you probably don't have a dual script installed on the dual 2.4? And does these computers have hypertrading?? If so, then folding only uses 50% of your computing power.

If cost is a issue OWC usually has great deals on their ram and seems to have a great warranty to back it up and will let you trade in old ram to knock the price down even further.
Seen that and it seems like a great deal.
Its worth noting though that if you bring in a computer with aftermarket RAM installed to the GB, you will run into some issues. Unless you REALLY need the extra cash back, id put the original apple RAM in that antistatic bag that the new stuff comes in and stick it somewhere safe in case the need arises.
Just a thought....
