My old roommate's macbook started shutting down randomly last night. She is not pleased to say the least. Quality control... it is a beautiful thing... something Apple should give a try sometime haha!

This is the classic response of the mac forum member who wants to act too cool to care that someone, in fact, proved them wrong.
The fact that Apple makes a quality product and provides solid customer service has not escaped me. My point was that Apple's practice of charging top dollar for outdated technology and keeping their customers in the dark as to new releases is poor. The only true way to show your disapproval of this practice is by closing your wallet.
If you want to prove me wrong, feel free to cite to a Consumer Reports article which promotes overcharging for older technology or withholding information from consumers which forces them to make purchases without full information about the market ... about any company.
Check and mate.
Most people (myself included) are quite frustrated that Apple hasn't released the new MBP yet ... which is really frustration at the company for their practices. I think most would appreciate a simple announcement that new MBP's are coming out on a certain date, or a statement that they are working on specific technology, etc.

One thing that strikes me...... doesn't this cause some confusion since Intel uses the "Core 2 Duo" name for both the mobile Merom chips and the desktop Conroe chips? Not that most consumers would know the difference anyway, but it seems like people see "Core 2 Duo" in the desktop iMac, and the assumption would be that it would be the same "Core 2 Duo" processor found in other desktops, not the mobile version.
Shouldn't the Conroe CPUs run at higher frequencies than the CPUs used in the iMacs?

Highly unusual for the US Apple store to still be down 2 hours after announcement.

Jumping on the wild guesses her ;)
Anyone thought about airpollution yet?! Lower CO2 emmisions from production? :P
Apple's earlier been critizised for not being "environmental enough" in their production right?
Anyway, just a thought, hehe

They should have a funeral for the Classic, just like they did for OS9 (what is OS9?). This thing turned Apple around, and turned them into the cash carrying monster they are today.

And yet, no new iPhone will be present ... I predict a lot of attending hearts will be broken!
Why?
This is a Developers Conference where they are there to get hands on and see the New software Platforms Apple is adopting so they enhance the applications for the Developers Apps (where it be for the IOS market or Mac Market)
:apple: for life, Google, MS, HTC, Motorola, Sumsung, start your photocopiers on June 6 lol

When solid-state drives come way, way down in price, and can be manufactured in a scaled-down dimension, you might very well see a 128 gig iPod Classic. But as long as the Classic uses a regular hard drive, I don't see any effort on Apple's part to revamp it or issue a larger capacity.
Why? it's an ipod first of all, and 128 is a step back from 160. who cares SSD or not? its an ipod not a computer.
The thing has no need to be updated so why bother? what can they possibly improve in it besides a crappy speaker that i'll hate anyway? and notice i say improve meaning NO TOUCH OPTIONS!

Hey MacRumors, your subscription prices are different than Adobe's site.
Adobe Photoshop is $35 per YEAR or $49 month to month.
Adobe Design Premium CS5.5 is $95 per YEAR or $139 month to month.
Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection is $129 per YEAR or $195 month to month.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/buying-guide.displayTab4.html
actually no, its 35$ per month if u subscribe to a 1 year commitment and 49$ per month if u extens it each month ... what a ripoff

Something tells me that core animation is going to be iPhoto for multi-touch. It reminds me a lot of the NYU video demo of multi touch interaction experiment photo editing tool. It would not surprise me at all if some feature use this soon.
my 2 cents.
his is pure speculation so dont read anything into it. I am just making a correlation between the look of the two softwares.

Some great composers, but Mc Cartney is not the sharpest business tool in shed. Evidence.... Michael Jackson & the fact he lost so much money waiting this long to license the music to a legitimate outlet. Allofmp3.com & bearshare, all the other peer2peer & preloaded ipods being sold stole from all of them big time.
MY friends all have complete Beatles on their mp3 players & computers. Cost probably nada. Whether it is right or wrong people will buy if it is easily available & steal more if it isnt.
SteveO has to be drinking the Beatles kool-aid to give an overgenerous deal.
The issue with the Michael Jackson thing goes back years to when Lennon/McCartney originally sold the publishing rights to Dick James, and then didn't/were'nt given the chance to buy them back once they became wealthy men. In the Michael Jackson case, it was simply that Paul couldn't raise the money to buy them. This was mainly because he couldn't get Yoko to join him in the bidding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Songs
And don't forget, Apple (Corps) aren't stupid. The 40th anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper is next year (June 1, for those who are keeping track). AND...not so coincidentally, it's the 20th anniversary of the CD releases. There is a massive opportunity there, and I've been saying for some time that I expect the remastered, next-gen Beatles releases to coincide with this event. "It was 20 years ago today...", and all that.
The fact that Apple can continue to make heaps of money after 40 years on just the Beatles images/likenesses (remember, they don't own the publishing OR the master recordings), is amazing.

I think it's a computer that will fit inside your home and possibly carry around with you (There's something in the Air), that can use your modem's telephone line to connect to the WWW and display text and graphics.

Everything there is overpriced. Their cables and connectors are usually 2x what they would cost from a respectable store! Typically when a part costs $12, I'll tell them I'll give them $5. They usually take it bc it's only worth 5
Yeah I got screwed by them, I wanted a long stereo cable so I could listen to my iPhone in my wife's 07 odyssey on a trip. For some stupid reason Honda only put a audio input in the very back for the kiddies but on the 08s it's right below the radio. Anyway I ended up paying around $12 for a 6ft 3.5mm to RCA L/R cable and a 6ft 3.5mm cable. I just saw today a website was selling a 5ft 3.5mm to RCA L/R for only $.69 with a coupon code and free shipping. Oh well that's what you get when you want something without waiting.

I want to see wifi syncing first...
i feel like this would be a real battery killer... maybe not if you are just adding a few apps and cd's but when i sync ~6gb of music, contacts, calanders, apps, etc. it's a pretty long process over USB... don't even want to know how long it would take over wi-fi, nor would I want to sit around the house for a few hours to finish updating my phone all while the battery is getting raped.

If Apple holds back on the iPhone 5 for the fall or winter, then I would expect we're going to see a fairly major change in the same basic iPhone4 form.
FORM or FUNCTION?
I can't imagine some Rubik's-Cube type form or a LOLicopter or something. It's always going to be generally the same form with minor tweaks.
As for FUNCTION... I am surprised how they spread out the tech and update. iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad all have closely similar tech. The only reason to spread them out is for price and sales of immediate-cool and price of parts. Logically, you'd think all those items would be launched together.
iPad3 might launch in Sept/Oct with iPods in order to smack down another slate device emerging on market at that time. It would be beneficial for Apple to save up all the tech and release everything all cranked up to maximum function at the beginning of the school year.
-------
Should be:
Sept--iPad/iPod/iPho
June--MacPro and OSs
March--iMacs
Dec--notebooks & software suites
'Course, they don't have to do that at all and can keep to other plans, but I get the logic of it all. People will survive and thrive with iPhone 4 another 3 months.

When I look at Apple's app reviewing, I think about how Nintendo did gatekeeping in the 80's in order to maintain the quality of its game library. A few third party developers got pissed, you had the black cartridges, but it worked out in Nintendo's favor.
To me the gatekeeping is just a business decision. It's not perfect but it does filter out a lot of crap out there. Apple just has to streamline their review process to be more consistent

It is really pending on whether AT&T will be up to par with Verizon's LTE by this fall... This is why I still think that the iPhone 5 will have no LTE(coming in June again), and the iPhone 6 will be coming out in June/July of 2012 offered with 4G(LTE) from either Verizon or AT&T...

I think the prices of Windows and OSX are quite the same. You can buy a new version of OSX more frequently for a lower price per each version, or buy a new version of Windows once and pay more for it but receive free updates/service packs for years. The yearly costs are quite the same.
The difference is Apple is actually providing leading edge desktop OS's. MS is fixing problems, or making minor improvements under duress. For example, my company was using Windows 2000, finally free of many of the real time consuming IT support nightmares due to using NT 4.0. I actually thought 2K was fairly decent. Then XP came out. We did a couple test installs. Yuk!
Systems resource usage went way up. We could not effectively run anything with less than 1GB, and that was not a common configuration back then. We had many HP PIII 550/600 Pavilions. Their performance was noticeably impacted by XP. What was worse, I did not really notice any obvious feature improvements. Then the XP SP1 horror stories began to filter in. Bottom line, we did not do any migration to XP until SP2 came out, and only did it with new computer purchases.
The timeframe for this short dissertation is approximately 6 years. I have not actually upgraded a single OS. MS has not offered an OS upgrade that was compelling enough to invest in. On the other hand, I cannot wait to buy the latest offering from Apple. The price for their innovation is cheap and I always think it was money well spent. Both MS and Apple do R&D, but it is somewhat different.

MS - Receive & Deposit

not sure if anyone else has touched on this, but did anyone notice that music videos are gone?
Nope, they're just included in the MUSIC category.
How is apple service different from Amazon?. Other than a pretty interface (last time i checked, pretty interfaces did not save me money or help pay the bills).. what's different?. Is the pricing different?.. are the restrictions different?.. why shouldn't I buy from amazon.. what happened to "when apple comes out with their service, they will kill amazon"??
Pricing is different, cheaper in some cases with a lower max price. And restrictions are much better in iTunes, 5 versus 2. Plus the amazon thing isn't mac compatible, it behaves like spyware, and requires a custom player to play the files.

Just to clarify, there are TWO battery recalls, one from a while ago, and one announced today.
The one announced today is located here
https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/index.html
The previous one is located here
https://depot.info.apple.com/batteryexchange/index.html
Do not confuse the two!!!
So why is the other, older recall now missing from the page! It just makes the Apple site look stupid.
