Darn, was really hoping for T Mobile compatibility. Oh well, guess this was pretty expected. What about all the CDMA customers? After 6 months? Never?

I'm not going to wade through all of the posts here and delete another few dozen off-topic ones, but it's clear that this thread is incapable of staying on-topic, which is a requirement in the news forums, and so it's being closed.

The new Mac Pro has finally achieved acoustic running levels to make it perfect
for audio recording solutions.
It will be interesting to see how quiet the new Merom iMacs run.
We've read countless complaint threads over the years about noise issues.
This is why I think Apple will pass on some of these processors to maintain
the new standards they have achieved.
It will be interesting to see how the 65nm back to back mirrored quad chips perform compared to the 45 nm chipsets.
For now, I think the priority is still to get heat down in the notebooks and to improve battery life.

I hope nobody's brought this up because I skipped a few pages of the thread, but...
I've noticed some things with regards to pricing.
The current 1.86 GHz Yonah in the 17" iMac costs $294.
The new 2 GHz Merom costs $294.
A 2.16 GHz Merom costs $423.
A 2.16 GHz Conroe costs $224.
A 2.16 GHz Conroe is a full $70 cheaper than the 1.86 GHz Yonah in the iMac today and $70 cheaper than the 2 GHz Merom Apple would use if they went with Merom. This would allow either higher profit margins or a price drop (or they could put the extra money into something else).
If there is a power supply problem- I'm sure it won't cost $70 to increase the power supply capacity a little.
If, instead, there is both a heat and power issue- a 2.16 GHz Conroe underclocked to 2 GHz is still $70 cheaper than a 2 GHz Merom and probably outperforms it, and can be advertised as a desktop processor and completes Apple's lineup.
I'm strongly hoping for Conroe in an iMac. I also hope the iMac gets updated at WWDC. I really don't want to wait anylonger to make the purchase, and the back to school deal expires in September two days after MacExpo Paris.
From what's been said, it looks like Conroe doesn't run too hot, it just sucks too much power. However, it still saves a lot of money to use, a little which can be put in to increasing the power supply, and the rest is pure profit for Apple. It also provides a huge leap in performance.
Apple can bump the iMac from 1.86/2 GHz to 2.16/2.4 GHz. The 2.4 GHz Conroe costs $107 less than the 2 GHz Yonah in the current 20" iMac, which could even spell a price drop, additional features, or just a huge Apple profit margin. You're the first one to bring this up. Conroe is well worth the money for its processing power. Getting a higher output power supply for the iMac shouldn't be to hard. So, I really do hope Apple somehow puts a Conroe in the iMac. :D
Oh and no underclocking please. :p

call me crazy but this is what i want, i know it aint happening but boo i want to let it out.
battery life that lasts for months not hours.
(realistic?) instead of ports using a small wifi independent network to copy
data
(realistic.) Wireless display.
(expensive) ssd.
no optical drive, but a cheap (30) that you can use wirelessly.
(totally unrealistic) i want it to find my brother a woman. ;)
and then i want it to transform and automatically gun down my enemies.
seriously why r we actually still using cables?
edit. looking at my mbp 13inch rght now i think f they really tried hard they could get a 15 inch screen in here and keep the form factor. imagine that a 15inch macbook pro with the footprint of the 13inch. what would the 13 look like. ooo
discuss. :)

So umm yeah....w00...go Apple...new Video Ipod...living in the Uk...why should I buy???????????????
Apple doesnt have ANY TV shows or Movies in the UK to buy. Why should I bother buying a video ipod now. Yeah I know I could store my FULL music collection but I want an ipod for wearability (at least for Music) when walking to school.
The deal clincher to make me buy a video ipod would be TV shows / Movies but it's been a year of TV shows for the US but ZIP / ZILCH / NADA for the UK. C'mon Apple get talking to the BBC / ITV. I'm sure you could work something out !!!!!.
And well movies is a "we hope to go international" so well meh to that.
So considering I'm not one of those people who a) wants to wear an ipod not carry b) doesnt need my complete music collection c) lives in a country where Apple has jack in terms of content what makes the Video ipod a compelling purchase

This is hardly a rumour, more just pointing out the obvious. What I want is
Likely:
SB i5 quad processor in the 21
 Thunderbolt
GPU upgrade (although I would like something at least as powerful as 5770)
Unlikely
 2 HDs standard, 1 x 64GB SSD, 1 x 1TB HD availabe for 21"
 2560 x 1440 resolution available for 21
 Blu-ray
Think the design will be the same, this time around. Re-design next time with Lion pre-installed and maybe, just maybe a touch screen

wake up then, because it won't happen for awhile.
The current enclosure is very nice, so why change it?
Hi gugy,
I agree with you: MBP are really nice, but.... the Macbook's keyboard design is simply gorgeous. Clean, with those rounded corners.
Not to mention the magnetic latch.
It would be a leap forward a better design. And a greater coherence through the entire -book line.
Bye!

I believe this is because of the pricing. Europe is much cheaper when it comes to price-per-minute.
Also in the US and Canada, you pay to receive a phone call. Not so in Europe, or Australia... if you only answer calls it costs you nothing.
Many people here buy a cheap phone on a cheap plan and say "It's for others to contact me, and for emergencies". Of course in reality someone pays to call them, and when they make their occassional call it costs a lot... still, the concept removes the barrier to people buying a phone.
The main thing I've noticed travelling is there's far more young people with cell phones here than in the US. btw... Australia has more active cellphones than people now.

HD - I'd agree with you plus you void the warranty doing it yourself.
RAM - Disagree. Definitely worth the effort to do it yourself. OWC or Crucial for RAM. OWC has RAM rebate for sending in your old RAM. It takes 5 minutes.....
I was thinking of having to take off the screen and use the anti lint kit, it's a pain, but I just realized I mixed up the RAM its under by the speakers.... totally easy... oops.
But, $50 too to bad to just have it done.

SB + Mediocre GPU = meh :(
A 2560x1440 screen deserves more than some lame mobile gpu.
Given the thickness of the machine, a mobile GPU is the only thing that will fit.

The real question that I haven't seen anyone ask, is will this be Intel only or will other chipsets/manufacturers support it as well.It appears to be Intel only for now and it is a rather large controller compared to USB 3.0 ones.
Intel gave many other vendors a field day for profits by not supporting USB 3.0 on their PCH. Though this did drive boards costs up and certain vendors preferred to wait for Intel to simply include support. To be honest, it only appears to be Apple.

I had no trouble getting an unlock code from Cingular for a SLVR I bought from them. Here's pix I just took showing it in use back home on the Telstra network.
I ended up doing the reverse. I bought a SLVR in China and brought it back to the USA. It's so nice not to have to be on any ****ing "contract". (Sorry, I just really hate the state of the cellphone market in the USA.)
I just want WiFi VoIP phones to come along and wipe out the whole market...I think that will have to wait for WiMax rollouts nationwide, though.

2012... 18 month update cycle? Far, far too long. No way... If that's the case, for the first time in 27 years, Apple doesn't get my money.
Mac Pro was just updated in August. They usually wait at least a year before updating the Pros, usually longer.

The best thing about listening to music on my iPod is I can listen to it wherever I am, such as in the car. Can't get wifi in the car, and no way am I tethering to my phone just to listen to music.

I think this may be one of those stories where the media make it sound much bigger than it is. A load of lawyers will make a ton of money and the two companies will come to some sort of licensing agreement or Apple will get a discount on some of the parts they buy.

Crap... I just ordered a 27" iMac from store.apple.com Friday morning. It hasn't shipped yet as i did some custom changes. I am going to call in the morning to see if I can hopefully cancel the order. I also purchased a 27" Cinema Display but that has already shipped. And doesn't look like it is in this upgrade round. If only there was a buyer's guide for Apple products on this very website.

It is coming, I bet. But you forgot the need for SLI. Apple is a hardware company and does not mind selling to Windows users that want the best hardware for their games. It is coming.Anyone got numbers on percentage of computer users who play games? I never play games. Am I in a minority?

According to certain sources it says Apple retail store are staying through the night to change out advertisements and such.
I don't understand why they would make a big deal about this unless they were releasing a major update such as a product re-design or big change. When has a spec update caused retail stores to have people work through the night?
Is this routine with any spec update @ retail stores?

Hilarious to all those people who jumped on the THUNDERBOLT bandwagon. No thunderbolt devices yet and they have the hideous old case design.
Yes because they forked out all that money for ONLY the Thunderbolt port for higher transfer speeds.
Not for a faster, better high-end machine.
