Even if Rim, Palm, etc. exhibit the same antenna problems as the iPhone 4, Apple is acting like a cry baby by trying to shift the discussion to include their competitors. Teacher, the other kids are being bad too, dont punish me alone.

Actually it was the competitors that tried to use the antenna problems as a selling point and as propaganda.

    http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/06/28/how-do-you-hold-your-nokia/
So the lot of them are fair game...

As for bloggers that just wanted to troll the issue to drive their numbers up the presentation (and answers that followed) were pretty much Jobs telling them to try and get a journalist degree and get their facts straight, and who could blame him?

Since the iPhone 4 as started shipping we've had the antenna problem that has being described as if the phone could simply not be used (numbers debunked that) without real investigation, fake Jobs e-mail, fake reports of an engineer warnings etc.

If it wasn't for anandtech this all would be a complete disaster. The way different technology sites reported the story is just pathetic.

I can never have any respect or even try to understand for any one to say "******* the police thats how we treat 'em" Now, is that not bad boy enough.

It's a bit deeper then that though, he says

******* the police that's how we treat 'em
we buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom

He's not just saying F the police just because they're the police.

DRM should be unified - one DRM standard for ALL devices.

While I'm no great fan of DRM, this makes about as much sense as making all home, car and office locks use the same key. And making files DRM'd under one system transferable to a different DRM (what France was attempting) simply means that no DRM will be stronger than the weakest.

Like it are not, if we want to buy legit music, we've got to have a fairly effective DRM or those who own music have no incentive to release it. Would any of us leave a brand-new MacBook Pro unattended on a park bench while we went into a store? Well, these people have far more invested in their music than we have in our computers.

In short, we shouldn't demand of others different standards than those we live by ourselves.

I like it as it is in Snow Leopard.

If Apple listened to all the “I like it as it” people we would still be on platinum. :)
Doesn't hurt to change things every now and then.

I wonder if this was in response to actual user feedback, or if Steve just decided one day…

Can't the police get a warrant for the IP address? I think if they have a warrant above their heads they might "find" a IP address. All the information they get from a xbox or 360 that gets on XBL they HAVE to know the IP.

Well, I guess Microsoft thinks they are above the law (what else is new) and claims they don't have to give out the info to anyone. I'm not sure if the cops are able to get a suppena for Microsoft's info.

This post is on Digg, we are trying to get some attention from Microsoft. If you have a Digg.com account, Digg it! http://digg.com/gaming_news/Stolen_Xbox_360_Microsoft_refuses_to_assist_police

Also, in regards to stupid employees and sleazy mangers, yeah, they do exist. But more employees know their stuff than you might think. And there are quite a few managers who actually do care about trying to do a good job and help the customer.

Now on the other hand, sleazy managers and supervisors can screw so much of this up. While most of the employees aren't making a career out of working at Best Buy, the sups and managers typically are on some level at least, and it takes a certain, umm, level of person to get, err, stuck, yes, at that level if you know what I mean. There's a lot of inconsistency in these types of people. If you get good ones though, they tend to hire good employees and foster a good environment for customers. My store has good management. It's the only thing that makes it remotely tolerable to me.

This is true of any retail. And it doesn't matter how bad or good corporate itself is, if you have good managers they can make a store that is great to go to regardless of bad corporate culture or vice versa.

I'm sure Best Buy has some stores run by good management. I am betting the place you work at is one of those. But in my experiences amongst four different Best Buys between two different states, they are not the norm.

(and yes, working for good managers makes a helluva lot of difference. They really do set the tone and not just in how they treat you and the customers and expect you to treat the customers, but it also shows in the quality of help they hire or the quality of help they keep. No, it's not fun to work under a manager who won't fire anyone. Sure, you have piece of mind in your job stability, but so does that crappy co worker that never does any work or pisses off the customers that you have to deal with the fallout from).

    My only question is:

If there was a study that was conducted some time back [more than 2 months back] and got Apple to investigate the issue seriously, why did Apple wait for another study OR another media non-sense to acknowledge the bugs and report to the consumers?

Why did Apple not rectify the problem before? Did Apple already knew about these features or are they simply getting with this crap by calling them "bugs"?

To be honest, this is probably the first time I'm feeling that Apple was trying to play with the consumers privacy and trust. I think Apple just fooled us.

-deth a lawsuite was filed a year ago, apple refused to address the problem becuase it was not out in the public as it is now with Congress connecting trails to wall street and who knows why apple collected political views.

According to authorities, Apple uses trolls, some techs even to bury issues posted on forums so they can buy time if many people either give up or simply seem less in number, so if the ratio of complaints are kept low no one notices bugs,

Im not surprised that the FEDS are upset about this, if they had iphones people can track them and all sorts of info is out public or in the wrong hands, makes the wikileeks kids look like angels

Speaking of aggravation, I'm having trouble with my new system. I'm back to stock cpu speed and for some reason the wu's don't want to use all of the cores/threads so bigadv units are running at 45+ min per frame now from 27 min per frame the first time I ran folding.

Congratulations, you understood the main purpose of the iPad. Add Plants vs Zombies, Shredder Chess HD and a Comic Book reader and you've essentially discovered everything that can be done with the gadget. For everything else, it's too big to be a truly mobile device like a smartphone and too weak and restricted to replace a real computer.

But yes, at least the ads are great and really work the "magic". The only problem is that you won't stay in Wonderland with your iPad, and in the real world, it's just a nice toy for a couple of minutes but not really good for anything.

Really? This is your opinion? So you think you're smarter than everyone else that's successfully using this device?

    Wow.

All of this begs the question... what's next for OS X?

I'm guessing they'll never move away from UNIX as the core OS... too late in the game now, but what are the alternatives?

I'm hoping they'll keep plugging at technologies like Open CL, GCD etc. to make Macs even faster...

Im guessing well see iTV coupled with iPod Hi-Fi wireless + iPod Hi-Fi mini satellites.

Hmm...interesting. Adding wireless capability directly to the iPod would make it more similar to the Zune. I wonder if they could add Bonjour technology to really go head-to-head. Except instead of the stupid (play 3 times) thing that the Zune has, you could actually browse and play shared playlists from other people's iPods (work exactly the same as shared playlists from iTunes now do...).

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the idea of a spoiler-free experience sort of run completely opposite to the purpose of this site? You sit around all year reading rumors and then don't want to be spoiled three hours before they post the keynote? Huh?

When you spend the whole year waiting for the event you want the moment to be perfect.

Man, that is a crummy little house by Silicon Valley standards if I ever saw one. I live in the neighboring town (Portola Valley), which is essentially the same as Woodside, and hence know many homes in the area (including the one I live in). And by current standards around here, not having a private bathroom for EACH bedroom, and a LARGE closet, is pretty substandard. Also, to only have *1* walk-in in the master rather than 2 is not good. No home theater? Large gym with panoramic views? Sauna/steam room/? Sun room? Library? Detached guest suite or guest house (in-law/nanny quarters, etc.)? Swimming pool? Hot tub? This honestly doesn't look like a place where a man of his caliber would be living full-time. Of course his house in Palo Alto isn't huge, either, but at least it is charming, historic, enchanted.

He has a number of kids, so I'm not sure how they would all fit into this small space with their friends when, e.g., everyone comes home for summers, holidays, etc. Typical houses for higher level people in the Woodside area would have at least 6-7 bedrooms, a bathroom for each bedroom, plus several additional half bathrooms, and probably about 10,000 squ. ft.

Only thing that makes sense to me is that he would view this as his retirement house since it'll only be done ~5 years, anyway. And I suppose for retirement people like to keep it small and simple. That would make sense to me and might hint at when he might be planning on retiring.

She is a woman plain and simple, what is or isn't between her legs does not matter one bit IMO.

Really? That doesn't matter? Well then why don't we have men compete in all the women's events at the Olympics? Oh wait, it does matter

I'm not defending the attackers. I think it was terrible. Horrifying video. It's hard to believe people are like this.

I do think this whole "biology doesn't matter, it's how you feel in your heart" nonsense is obviously nonsense.

He has every right to dress like a girl. I don't even mind if he uses a female bathoom. But those things don't make someone female. The characteristics that allow doctors to assign genders to new-borns do not change as people get older.

Common sense to a programmer is not all ways the same same a common sense to a user.
The code is working as intented, but the design is flawed. A switch that prevents applications from calling a service is functionally the same as disabling the service; except in this case. In this case they intentional left the service running, without considering the consequences of the cache continuing to update.

The common sense I referred to is that an on/off switch doesn't need to be explained to a user. Off = Off. On = On.

The code is NOT working as intended. Apple even said so. Turning it off wasn't supposed to continue the recording of locations.

That's like the old joke that a broken clock is still right twice a day.

Look - they're fixing it. They know it was an issue (now for certain). That's really what matters here.
