Very well said. A very thoughtful and rational statement. The histrionics from some members can be too much at times.
In saying that though, many people do just sell their contracted iPhone and buy the latest unlocked iPhone direct from Apple.

Phil Schiller is a terrible presenter, perhaps he's a nice bloke.
Watching it in the UK at around 11.30pm last night, it quit out after about half an hour, and the quality was a little choppy before then.
Why did they decide to present the MacPro before the OSX leopard stuff? Maybe cos they didn't want to wheel Phil Schiller on at the end?
With regards to Jobs looking ill, lets face it, he works hard, and he's knocking on a bit now. Must have been a pretty hectic period shifting over to a different chip.

Thanks :)
So lets see more MR member piercing pics, you know you have them and want to show us :)
Just be very careful. Continue proper hygiene. The erythematous tissue at your temple is very evident. Meaning red with slight swelling. Just be careful there are a lot of blood vessels in the area and it can be serious.

just bought 8gb for $65 today ($20rebate) on newegg after finding this article. good luck!

As I recall, many 6GB ram kits were having issues on the Late 08 Macs, so OWC started selling verified kits that were slightly more expensive but guaranteed to work. So I guess I'm saying beware, and test it out fully. If that kit does work for you, please share your experience. Maybe I'll pick up a pair too.

Still, would it not be easy to see if the boxes were, uh, iMac sized, iPod sized, or Nano sized???
I am just amazed things stay secret so well....
I'm pretty sure the box size is bigger than a Mini and smaller than at Mac Pro. And the price tag is $1499. (and it's not an iMac).

I wouldn't care if they released or shipped it early next year, I need more time to save money  But it's sad for you other people with well-paid jobs. Good point on thanksgiving, Chundles.

Okay, I just purchased the EyeTV app and it does allow you to stream pre-recorded video over the 3G connection. However, if you attempt to view live TV it says that requires a WiFi connection.
However, you can now record your own TV shows (or whatever) with the EyeTV hardware and view those same recordings with your iPhone over the 3G cellular network. On my first trial the image quality over 3G looks pretty bad, but it does play.
The quality over my local WiFi looks very good most of the time, but I did see some pauses and some random artifacts now and then. Also, the audio quality over WiFi seems a bit lacking, voices are okay but music sounds like you're under water (with significant and quite bad vibrato).

First off, this looks very much like core technology, not a product description.
The concept of overlays is a natural follow-on to any kind of multi-touch technology. It makes sense.
If you're doing audio recording (for instance), a bunch of virtual on-screen sliders that can be manipulated simultaneously using multiple-touches on a trackpad-like surface is an important feature. But if you can't look down and know what sliders your fingers are on, it will be too confusing to work well.
Obviously, this problem can be solved with a simple painted-sheet overlay. Then you can see the sliders. But one solution begs another. Why not have mechanical sliders as well? This will make it the same as what audio people are used to working with now, but (presumably) an overlay will cost less than a standalone USB-based mixing console, since you only need the mechanics, not the electronics.
The rest of the patent clearly looks like the results of a brainstorming session. "Now that we've established the concept of mechanical overlays, what else could you conceivably overlay."
In terms of actual products, I can only think of two items likely to someday make it into products.
The first is the iPod control. Replace the click-wheel part with a pad. This is thinner and possibly cheaper than existing click-wheels. An overlay (hopefully not optional) can provide the tactile feedback necessary to make the whole deal work. Given that Apple is now selling games for iPods, a gaming overlay (say, with two plus-pads and select/start buttongs) would be a logical add-on.
The second would be a way to cut costs for laptops. Instead of a keyboard and a trackpad, make the entire upper surface a single multi-touch pad. Then bundle a keyboard overlay. This may be able to cut costs somewhat, and it has the potential to make the laptop spill-proof (it's easier to seal a touchpad than a keyboard.).
The possibility of alternate overlays to replace the keyboard seems pretty unlikely to me, but we might see stuff to overlay the lower-half of this surface (which would, by default, be configured to work like existing trackpads.) I'd expect any replacement laptop overlays to come from third parties not from Apple.
And no, I can't imagine anyone traveling with a bunch of overlays. More likely that the overlays would remain at the location where the apps are typically run.
For instance, if I work in a recording studio, I'd leave the mixer-board overlay in the studio, to use when I'm there doing recording. I probably wouldn't be doing much mixing on the subway.

The weak don't survive. Isn't that good for evolution?
Well, it's certainly good for Natural Selection.
One would hope that Evolution would also benefit.

I'd recommend setting a time later in the afternoon, say 3:00 PM each day of the show. I know this is when my dogs are usually getting pretty tired and I'm looking for a sit-down.
There are four semi-circular seating areas on the ground level of South Hall, at the top of the escalators. I say just pick one, and a time, and see who shows up.
A 3:00 meeting every afternoon sounds like a good plan to me.
Here's some more info about the four seating areas that IJ speaks of... They're officially called the Horseshoe Lounge(s) and are in the street-level lobby (officially the upper lobby) of the South Hall.
On the floor plan picture below, you can see the four horseshoe booths. I've marked one with an "X." If there are no objections, let's call that "MacRumors HQ." If you're coming up the escalators from the exhibition, it's the booth left-most booth. If you're coming in from the street, it's the right-most booth.

jon stewart, or should i say Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, is not funny and is an unintelligent, illogical, emotional child. anything funny he says on his show is no doubt written by a team of young writers. he is famous for being a clown.
Unintelligent? lol
Have you seen him pick people apart with questions or when he's doing commentary?
As for emotional, you may want to check out the nutbars on Faux News with their crazy antics (Glenn Beck) and constant lies. Let's also not forget the Tea Bagging people, they're a weeee bit emotional as well.

Do you know how many of those suckers would have to be placed to track a jogger running thru Central Park? maybe hundreds easily if they are limited to 60ft.
sure, make light of it. but do i want to be able to be stalked by every vision-impaired tom, dick, and hannibal who otherwise couldn't follow me within a 60 foot radius? I don't think so.
next some evil corporation will come up with an mp3 player that not only can track you at such close distance, but also--oh, the humanity--send you a song to distract you even more. Think "Don't Look Back," 1965, by the Temptations, or the later version by Springsteen. Sure, we'll listen to our music idols--only to be stabbed in the back.

Well I'm a pro user and i welcome the new FCP and it's price.
I have a decent budget since I work for a corporation.
If I lost my job or decided to go on my own, $299 would make it easier to deal with than a seat with Avid.
Got it in one. I just watched an Indy Mogul episode and in the credits it was produced, presented and edited by the same person. She also interviewed people for a vox pop. End result looked good too. (http://www.indymogul.com/beyondtrailer/episode/BTT_20110415_1/scream-4-movie-review)
At the Supermeet presentation, the guy said "And it's only $299, which means you don't have to decide who gets a copy" (or words to that effect). THe last bit was drowned out by the crowd, but he meant that you no longer have to give everyone FCP/Motion/Color/STP/Cinema Tools if all they need is FCP.

I wonder if the only reason the % has gone up is because of a higher number of people shopping at places like Dell.com. Apple has yet to offer a real reason to shop online rather than shop at a store, so while PC buyers flock to online purchases Apple buyers stick with regular stores since theres no point to shop at apple.com unless theyre out of stock.
This makes not one lick of sense, both structurally and in meaning.

Ditto here for delivery on the 26th. I've also been checking the Apple Store @ Stonestown in San Francisco here and there. Almost every day for the past week or so, I've heard people lining up at 5 am or earlier. Apple Store staff hand out iPad tickets around 7, so it's sold out the rest of the day. On the first day of the release at RadioShack, I was third in line at a store @ just after 8 am, and... the store only received two iPad 2s. Doh! Put my name on a list but that's been pretty much useless.
Got my shipment notification email today (Apr 12) stating that my iPad 2 delivers by Apr 19, 2011 via FedEx. My order was placed on Mar 22. Exciting!

I'm inclined to believe they're real, and I like them :) Expos for Safari tabs? It's like they read my mind. I hope they're real come Monday.
They do look/sound good, and I like most of the features they claim, but the Spotlight screenshots look faked to me. Not professional enough.
