My ibook power adaptor broke. Anyone know of any 3rd party ones that are maybe a little cheaper then the official Apple one? Thanks in advance.

You are welcome to expend the effort to discover the back story. If you choose not to, go ahead keep spouting misinformation and jingoism, but be prepared to be called on it or to simply be ignored as lacking credibility.

since he feels you've failed to support your point, it's perfectly reasonable for him to point it out

Well, more like 175K sold... another 175K given away free. :D

You should tell that to my wife who has an Android phone and finds that it doesn't really even seem to be well adapted to phone-related situations. She's constantly having problems with it, particularly with freeze-ups and crashing.

I think it's more truthful to phrase your sentence like this. "Android is a powerful mobile OS that can be shoehorned into many situations but can do none of them very well."

Was it the phone she had issues with or android. It could just be a ***** phone running android. Or android sucks for her. I use android and i have no issues. I use a very cheap android phone at that so i should get plenty of random shutdowns but i never do.

My friend returned his HTC Desire HD and bought the iPhone 4. Android really cannot satisfy many users.

Thank you I totally agree with you Android cannot and will not satisfy everyone. Now you must also agree that WP7, Blackberry OS and iOS also cannot satisfy every user and that is why we have choices. Thank you so much because your statement is true about all the OSs. I had a friend with an iPhone 4, she being a normal college age girl took it back and got an android based phone.

Rest of the world says hi. This thread is about alleged stats for the US only. Android is caning the iPhone globally.

yes android is canning to iPhones world wide in terms of usage. Because you have to count everything for the android such as tablets, ereaders, Tvs and everything that is sold with a licensed version of android. But if you change your statement to Android Phones are are selling more then iPhones. Notice you cannot compare an OS to hardware.

Why should people who just want to read the news be compelled to provide the FT with personal information in order to do so? Why does the FT need to know my name, address, phone number, etc.?

Because the Financial Times wants it that way. The company offers its content to subscribers under certain conditions, and it is free do so. If the company should not be allowed to do that for the sake of consumer protection, then there should be laws to prohibit such practice. If you personally do not agree with the conditions of the subscription, then you are always free to decide not to subscribe. If it turns out that their decision keeps customers from subscribing, then they might choose to reconsider.

With regard to subscriptions on iOS, I think that Apple simply goes too far and should leave content providers the freedom to offer their content in their way, based on their subscription models. As the Financial Times has stated, under the current terms of the App Store, subscriptions via iOS do not meet their expectations because they cannot provide the content in the way they would like to.

On a side note, I wonder whether Apple violates competition rules. When I remember correctly, the iPad had a considerable market share on the tablet market. One could argue that Apple abuses its market position to impose their own (unfair) conditions on publishers.

I was disappointed that there was nothing for the Mac. Even just release dates/months for Leopard and iWork 07 would have sated me.

The iPhone is cool, but it's too expensive and has far too little memory for me to actually consider buying it.

It's a little more grown up than castle, less preteen fairytale? (although until this thread I liked Castle better than iCloud; heck, probably still do).

We’re an engineering-driven company. When people accuse us of things, the first thing we want to do is find out the truth. That took a certain amount of time to track all of these things down. And the accusations were coming day by day. By the time we had figured this all out, it took a few days.

As someone who has to track down things like this constantly, I'm pretty unimpressed at the (lack of) speed of their code checking. This was not an obscure bug or complicated. It was just a too-large buffer definition and an execution path that always downloaded info.

And people think Apple can check binary app store submissions for bugs or trojans in just a few minutes, when they can't even find their own bugs in a few days with commented source code.

Then writing it up and trying to make it intelligible when this is a very high-tech topic took a few days.

Again unimpressed. There've been accurate explanations posted here before Apple spoke up, that took just minutes to compose.

And here we are less than a week later.

Although I've defended Apple over and over again on this topic, this just smacks of hoping it would blow over.

The right thing to do would've been to immediately say a week ago, "we're looking into it".

To be honest, it's only another iPhone rumor to add to the mix. The idea that Apple is ploughing ahead with new models is nice, but let's wait for v1.0 first before we start speculating about 'new' features.

    Hi

Well I think my question is obvious.
Is it safe to update my iTunes and still be able to synchronize it without problems?

    Thanks

For the icons I am using Flurry (http://iconfactory.com/search/freeware/flurry) for my entire system. There is a total of 5 packs you can find in that link. And for others like specific folders and apps you can find a lot on DeviantArt (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/icons/?qh=&section=&q=flurry)

As for the stacks list view I use Tinkertool (http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html). Its a free app for accessing hidden OS X features, just click on the "dock" tab and beside "stacks" tick off "use large, grid-like style for list view"

Great cheers! Can't believe I'd never heard of TinkerTool before. Thanks man much appreciated.

Any chance they drop the price by $50 or something?

I just don't see how they will sell too many of these unless there is at least a small incentive.

    Hey guys,

I'm sure that this is a common problem, but I've only seen variations of my problem in the threads I've gone through and none of the suggested fixes from other threads has worked.

I have a PC running Windows 7 Professional. My iTunes is up to date and I have a 120GB iPod Classic I purchased, oh, maybe 3 years ago? The cord I'm using is the one that came with my 3G iPhone about a year ago and is not damaged.

When I try to sync my iPod in iTunes, the first time I hook it up to the USB cord, it makes the ding saying that computer recognizes one of the USB ports is in use. Then a notification pops up in the bottom right hand corner saying that the computer is installing software. It will do this for a while and basically nothing happens. It will then randomly make the ding the computer makes when something from a USB port is unplugged, even though I have yet to unplug my iPod and it will say its still installing software. iTunes will not pop up and if I open iTunes it does not recognize that my iPod is plugged in.

Then if I unplug my iPod and to try and replug it in, my entire iPod will freeze up. It will stay like this for about 6+ hours normally and the battery will be completely drained when it finally unfreezes.

Now this is where it gets strange...then, if I attempt to sync my iPod again after it no longer frozen, the computer will immediately recognize it, iTunes will pop up, it will sync in like, 1 to 2 minutes and then tell me its OK to Disconnect.

Then when I try again after a few days, it will do the whole thing all over again, iTunes won't recognize it, the iPod freezes, and then on the second attempt after it unfreezes, syncing it is a breeze!

My iPhone has NONE of these problems, I plug it in and iTunes immediately recognizes it and syncs it.

    Help? :(
