Hi - I am an avid macrumors guy and usully hang on the ipad and iphone forums but I think I may need a MacbookAir. Here's my need
I give 75 size slide shows with a projector and use Keynote..the i pad does it, but won't let me use the iPhone as a remote - only the macbooks do that..also when multitasking really heav,y and throwing lots of slides up, the ipad become a bit jerky due to it's memory( yes I;m using the new Ipad2).
My company has said get the air if I need it
do I need it?
I can get stuff in and out using dropbox so I don;'t think I need the cd player?
and was just going to get work or is office the ticket - or both?
thanks in advance

HP (and) Dell Product Availability Affected By Intel Chipset-Design Flaw
Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. said that the availability of certain machines will be impacted by a chip- design flaw disclosed by Intel Corp. and that it will delay a product presentation scheduled for next week in San Francisco.
We are postponing the business notebooks briefing on Feb. 10 as the availability of HP products will be impacted by the flaw outlined by Intel, according to a statement sent to reporters yesterday by Edelman Public Relations Worldwide.
HP Product Availability Impacted By Intels Flaw
Intel, the worlds largest maker of semiconductors, said on Jan. 31 that it will incur $1 billion in missed sales and higher cost to fix the design flaw. The error also is affecting personal-computer makers including Samsung Electronics Co., which said it will offer refunds on some PCs, and NEC Corp., which said it may push back the release of four new models.
The fault is in a support chip, or chipset, for Intels latest processor model called Sandy Bridge, unveiled this month in a bid to improve PC graphics and repel a challenge by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
HP, the worlds largest maker of PCs, sells many computers that use chips other than Sandy Bridge, said Marlene Somsak, a spokeswoman for Palo Alto, California based HP.
HP has the broadest lineup of PCs in the industry and there are many HP choices using a wide variety of processors, Somsak said yesterday.
HP climbed 83 cents to $46.52 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading yesterday. It declined 18 percent last year.
XPS, Alienware
Dell Inc. spokesman David Frink said in an e-mailed statement that the Intel flaw affects four Dell products sold under its XPS, Vostro, and Alienware brands.
Were committed to addressing this with customers who have already purchased one of the four products, will work directly with them and provide further detail as it becomes available, Frink said.
Computers that use the potentially faulty chips have been sold since Jan. 9, and Intel said its corrected the flaw and begun manufacturing a new version of the chip that will resolve the issue.
Intel said it expects to begin delivering an updated version of Sandy Bridges chipset, called Cougar Point, to customers in late February and be at full production in April. The company has shipped about 8 million of the Cougar Point chips to customers that will have to be replaced, Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith said on a Jan. 31 conference call.
HP had planned to discuss the notebook computers, aimed at business customers, with journalists next week, before officially unveiling them to the public on Feb. 23, according to an earlier e-mail from Edelman.

OMG what is hard to understand? Either a new book bag or a case. I don't want another freaking messenger bag. I already have that (as I stated in the first post and re-iterated in my first reply).
Seriously people, I appreciate the help but read before you rush to hit the reply button. Even if you completely ignore my repeated comments that I don't want another messenger bag (either a BOOK bag or CASE), you're suggesting a bag for the 11" MBA when I said in the title I have a 13". Why not just tell me what kind of car you drive instead, it's about an equally worthless piece of information (in regards to this thread).
Matt this is for all the people that read your post. See attached Case...

The only way I know how to do it is to copy the quote and paste it manually within the quoted post. If the quote came from another post, as in your example, you can use the multi-quote button (http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/multiquote_off.gif) to get both quotes in your reply, then cut and paste the original post into the post that quoted it.
Thanks, that is the method I have been using. It just seems a bit inelegant!

I really enjoyed it. Definitely kept my attention the whole time.
If I had to pick apart anything I'd say the weakest graphic would be the rit dye packaging folding up at :33-:35 but I thought everything else was very strong and appealing.

j763, get off the phone with AOL and return to calmness.
I experienced a similar situation with my Cube, with it not turning off until I unplugged it. Even Apple couldn't find what the problem was.
My problem was how I had the USB set up. I had the speakers set up in port 1 and the monitor in port 2.
Plug in your monitor to USB port 1, and your speakers to USB port 2. That may fix the problem.

To the OP: We're on the verge of getting the new generation of SSDs from Intel, Micron, and SandForce over the next few months. Probably best to wait a bit to see how the new ones are (and/or wait for the current-gen ones to drop in price).

I have never, ever heard of anything like this happening on the Underground; but then again I'm only 14 so I haven't been around that long in the grand scheme of things :P
No matter how slow it was rolling its still a big deal, even the slightest bump from another car can derail especially with the condition of the tracks on da tube
Yeah, I suppose, but the actual tunnel has only just enough room for a train car, so it would be less of a deal. Could still damage the tunnel wall though I suppose. It is pretty bumpy on most of the tracks in the UK I think.

Fairly annoying really. In all my years visiting rumour sites, I've never got my hopes up about something only to learn that it was a fabrication by a singular person in the industry

the more the better!
eagerly awaiting Aperture 3.1 to speed a few things up and please add pinch zoom for the MBP users, even Lightroom has pinch zoom.
I'm happy with the new Aperture but these tiny little things can be improved.
There is pinch zoom in the browser view and while working with Faces, just not while editing a picture.
IMHO, pinch zoom gets in my way more often than not. I find myself accidentally triggering it while dragging a selection in Faces or the browser. I strongly prefer more intentional control over something like that in a pro photo package ...
That having been said, it would be nice to be an option.

The way alot of those people were treated today. My heart goes out to them. It makes me want to never support another Apple product again and actually glad I didn't give that Apple store my money for a Iphone 4. I arrived like alot of people at 6 am. That's exactly what they told us when I came 2 days earlier to double check. There were already thousands of people there in both reserved and non-reserved lines. I was almost to the very back of the non reserved line.
I waited in that line until 10 am. A full four hours, and we had not moved more than 50 feet. They kept telling us that the wait time would be around 5 hours estimated tops. I did the calculations in my head, that if we spent the last 4 hours (3 hours actual store open time) to move 50 feet, how the hell were we going to move 400+ feet in 5 hours. Our line, the non-reserved line wasn't budging. It moved probably 10 feet every 45 minutes.
I decided it was physically impossible to move all the way to the front in only 5 hours the way the lines were going. My greatest fears were proven correct. I asked one of the workers up front why our non reserved line wasn't moving and he told me they had to keep doing recounts to ensure everyone in the reserved line would get their phones. Talking to people closer to the front, they said the people being let in from the reserved side to the non reserved side was like 20 to 1. I left the line, went to Best Buy and asked for an Evo 4g, a phone I had been trying to get for weeks and which I was on several lists. As plain dumb luck would have it, they actually had a few. I got one, which I actually coveted way more than any Iphone and checked back in multiple times as I had errands to run, with the people I was standing in line with.
I ****** you not, the last time I checked in with them, it was 8:30 pm and they still had around 300 people ahead of them. With no indication of getting a phone anytime soon. They literally spent an entire day there waiting on a cell phone. And the kicker is that I asked one of the workers when they planned on closing, and they said 9 pm. He then told me that people in the reserved line would probably get a voucher and the people in the non-reserved line were s-o-l. There entire day was wasted for nothing and now if they want to get an Iphone, they have to repeat the process again tomorrow.
This was piss poor planning by the Apple store that made alot of people suffer with the only hope of getting an Iphone to hang on. I realize that 99% of you who got your Iphone today will probably not care because you feel like those people waiting in the non-reserved line should have reserved. The problem is, most of them DID try to reserve, but thanks to At&t's and Apple's website crashing, that was nearly impossible for them. Alot of them actually did reserve but never got the confirmation email.
If you ask my opinion of what should have happened, I believed that Apple should have scrapped non reservations all together like Att, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, because they clearly did not have the infrastructure to handle this amount of people. Alot of people suffered waiting in line the whole ENTIRE day and came away with nothing! I know nobody held a gun to their head, but Apple should have made EVERYONE aware of how they would be handling this mess instead of keeping people in the dark and repeatedly lying about the hopes of getting an Iphone.
They handed out drinks, and bagles, and sandwiches in line, but why not have somebody go through line with an armed security guard and ring up people actually OUTSIDE of the Apple store with those Ipod Touch Registers. Those who pay cash would have their money placed in a Safe Deposit Box again with the armed guard present. People could then get their Iphone right there with the worker activating their account on a laptop equipped with wi-fi. If they need more workers to carry that out, hire some college kids on Summer Break for a day or get some Att employees who were twiddling their thumbs all day in their stores. There may be some holes in my solution, but it's better than the crappy way they treated their customers today. Apple makes great products, but their arrogance and neglect is overbearing and I've just about had it with this company! They can go make their money off some other loser.
