Hi all,
I recently purchased the new 2011 MBP and a friend provided me with a cracked, full version of iWork which was installed as normal and required a serial number which worked successfully.
My MBP is now telling me that there are software updates available for it however I was wondering if anyone knows if I perform the software update will my version no longer work (i.e. will apple know I did not buy the product and it won't let me use iWork anymore)?
Thanks
Daniel

(once again) I agree.. but the "wear and tear" is fairly negligible.

As long as the better iPhone's price does not exceed $299 for the highest version, I don't care.

This is the first time I've heard of such a thing...this is horrible
I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but can't they just demolish this house and rebuild a new one on the same plot? I know it'll be expensive...I am just asking :o

This forum.
Because you need to scroll all the way down just to see it.
IMO, really annoying and makes people go out of their way to get here.

It would have been nice to put OS X on my fairly new 1.3 AMD, or even the 1.6 P4 at work (if nothing else than to save the TORTURE that was my Win98/2000 install from HELL, freakin' M$. Now I can Crash twice as fast!). But we know that won't be happening anytime soon.
Can't wait to get a new Mac to replace my old one (that I no longer have BTW) after I move. Maybe a nice Cool (pun intended) iBook (c'mon 1 GHz G3 + 32 MB vid card), or an eMac to play with untill I can afford a new Tower. Who knows what we'll have by then?
GigaHertz, shmigahertz. If I can run FCP off of a 320 GB hard drive in almost real-time with out the crashing, I'll be happy.
Another couple of months.
We'll see what happens.

I've been using Keynote lately for work presentations. It's annoying not to be able to give them to PC co-workers. PPT such a piece of crap, and i'd like to be able to use keynote more, but sadly it's not super useful anywhere other than my computer.

I'm using Firefox with adblock right now and it seems to work fine, despite the fact that the page says it's not available for version 1.0+. I changed that to 1.0 and got the version that works.
Also, you might try Shiira. It uses the back-end that Safari and OmniWeb use to render pages and run JavaScript but it has its own distinct look.

Why am I only getting 1 answer?
Thanks in advance,
Ernie
One of the hardest things to remember when using R compared to other programming languages, is that almost everything you do is a vector operation. When you do q <- 0, R is going to apply the "<- 0" to the entire vector of q. And if you haven't created q before this, q will just be set equal to either 0 or 1. What you're asking R to do is if any value in socscore is less or equal to than 3, assign 0 to q, otherwise assign 1 to q. I'm assuming you want q to be a vector of 0's and 1's corresponding to whether socscore <= 3 or not?
There are a couple ways to do that. You can either use a loop:
q <- rep(NA, length(socscore))
for ( i in 1:length(socscore) {

holy crap you're a genious :) it actually started computing now i think, though it errored out right away with an 'unstable machine' error. first time its gotten that far at least. here's the log
it was trying to use core_15 earlier which was probably the issue. i wasn't forcing it with g80. i'm still not sure from those linux instructions what all we need to do on os x with the wine dll wrapper and stuff though. maybe its not actually seeing the card who knows. thanks for the help:)
looks like it might be an issue with the nvidia cuda driver and 10.6.5? http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=185332
well hey, it seems you are getting somewhere! yeah if you have a core_15, you gotta delete the everything except the fah app and the dll files, and it will download a new core_11.
don't give up! you might be able to get there!

The Library of Congress already rule jb is legal. Try again.
Whatever 'muscle' is? All you need to sue someone is money and both Apple and Sony have more than enough.
I've never seen somebody more clueless.
If Geohot loses, Apple could try another pass at it. Even the lowest court could throw out the Library of Congress's opinion.
Clearly somebody wasn't paying attention in middle school history when they went over constitutional powers.
I just donated $100. Geohot is a drama queen but this has absolutely nothing to do with him as a person but the importance of what he did.

Since when do they last months!?
I would love a backlit keyboard! Laser cut aluminium keys with 16.5 million colour LEDs please :D
My Apple wireless keyboard lasts 2-3 months on regular AA batteries.
If your wireless keyboard was backlit you'd have to replace the batteries every second day or so...

I want to give a Mac mini away for a couple of days to someone who would want to play with Mac for the first time. Is there a way to return OS X to a state where you find it straight after fresh OS X installation when Mac needs to be taken through registration process, given name, etc.
I want to install all the accompanying software like iLife'05 and apply all the recent OS and iLife updates and then "reset/deauthorise" OS X so that the new user did not have to install apps and download updates the first thing after powering the Mac up and going online.
If you are familiar with what sysprep does to Windows, that's what I am looking for Mac OS X.
I assume the process should include removing all the user accounts, deleting assigned Mac name and kicking in a registration app at startup.
I just hope one does not need to buy OS X server for that!
I know there's an invisible file called .AppleSetupDone that controls whether or not the setup assistant runs (if it's there, boot normally; if it isn't, run the setup assistant). However, I don't know where it's located, nor can I search for it since I'm not at my Mac right now. Since it's really only a flag file, it's probably VERY small (less than 1 KB).

Why...?
16 MP in a phone for what?
well I would say 16MP would be great for when I need to take a snap shot of someone homework or something posted somewhere. Easier to zoom in and read the text. But for taking good phoses I will take an SLR or a dedicated camera.
My 4MP digital camera from 7 years ago takes better photos than any camera phone I have seen no matter the Megapixels. But then again that camera does have better optics than any phone could ever have on it.

The only issue would be if you need to access the book side-by-side with your work. This isn't a problem for me because I have 2 large screens. If you only have one smallish screen, then this may be an issue. Unless you have an iPad and can view the book on the iPad while you work. ;)
This was one thing I thought of, but the bulk of my work is done with my MBP tethered to an external monitor, so I have the space for it. I eventually plan on getting an iPad (though by the time I have the money, it will likely be an iPad 3) so I figure that would be awesome to be able to keep all my programming books together at all times.
I'm open to as many opinions as possible, and I appreciate the comments!

This is wierd
I came past 10 minutes ago and there were about 20 people outside maybe more
I went looking for breakfast, came back and now there's only 7 people between me and the front of the queue
(an some guy is scrubbing the pavement clean)
either they are batch processing the early arrivers OR there was a big fight and the guy is scrubbing away the blood
Us special early arrivers are already inside. They let us in and we're lined up round the stairwell. ;)

I'd recommend buying a Dell 2005FPW, 20" widescreen LCD (1680x1050) just like the Apple ACD. Should cost around $400-500 currently depending on coupons, sometimes dipping under $400 at the right time with the right coupons.
