This is not really new technology.
For those not wanting to look this up here is a quote from wikipedia
"This effect was first discovered, accidentally, by the German physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck in 1821, who found that a voltage existed between two ends of a metal bar when a temperature gradient ΔT existed in the bar."
These same chips are used by some people as active coolers for CPS and GPS. They are sold as "Thermo-electric cools" (TECs) or "Peltier Devices". I can think of a couple large industrial suppliers of these devices. THey are used in those plug in ice chests and very small desktop fridges too. They are mostly used in the cooling mode but the same device works as a heater or as a power source. They are not expensive. $15 or $20 will get you one that you can play with
This is a very common device what is new is that someone is marketing it to Apple.

after all this hype if iOS 5 is just a small improvement that would be ludicrous.
What hype?

Sometimes I get the feeling that there are only interns working on .mac
I always assumed it was monkeys, so I guess interns would be a step up.
Yeah, for a $99/yr offering, it's stunningly meager.

The only place in North America where gas is ridiculously HIGH....QUEBEC. Taxes represent 30-35% of the cost of gas. *sigh* But at least our roads are smooth... Oh no wait, they are not.

If there are any questions from children on what careers they should gravitate toward,
Intellectual property attorney should be high on the list. Its replaced sales as a way for company's to gain revenue. Just take the results of other company's sales. No matter that they out executed you on whatever idea you claim.
They all do it now.

Whilst it's good to see Apple gaining some market share there is a part of me that does not want them to gain too much. I worry that if they ever become mass market that they will lose some of their uniqueness.

The purpose of the Challenge is to provide a venue where photographers of all skill levels can work to improve their craft by shooting along a common topic for two weeks - one fortnight. Helpful comments and critiques are key to reaching the intended goal - better photography.
About Your Photos
Shoot for the topics listed on the schedule. You may shoot for upcoming topics, but post photos only to their matching Challenges.
You may post as many photos as you wish for any one Challenge.
About Your Comments
Comments are critical to the success of the Challenge. If you post a photo, add a comment to another one. If you are only viewing, please add your comments, too.
Comments should be meaningful, something that the photographer can use to improve his/her work. Explain why you like or dislike a photo. Spend a moment looking at a photo before commenting on it. Try to answer the question "I like this photo because" It really helps the photographer.
The Topic Schedule is:
Contrasts March 2 - 15
Upcoming Topics:
Beauty in Unexpected Places (March 16 - 29)

Update: Yesterday everything worked with my DVD drive - today everything is the same as before! It won't play some of my DVDs - how strange is that? It seems that the reset made the DVD drive accept DVDs again, but only for a limited time :-(
Does anybody else in this forum have the same problem? Is there any soft fix, or does my MBP have to get ripped apart and receive new parts?

I hope the super secret features aren't already in the preview (or at least disabled). If they were active, I'm sure people would be saying "wow that's a cool new feature!" Since I haven't heard any of that, and the secret stuff is active, then I guess Apple's making a mountain out of a molehill.

It's amazing what someone with the proper tool can do to actually test these kind of issues.
You mean this was not the right tool?

Samsung and LG already settled with Kodak.
Kodak's (NYSE:EK) market cap is < $1B.
Why doesn't Apple just buy them and continue the suit against RIM?
Probably because Apple's lawyers and engineers have looked at the patent, decided there is little risk for Apple having to pay up, and Apple has no intention spending money to buy ailing companies, and Apple has no intention of suing RIM with patents that RIM is most likely not infringing on either.
And of course it would open up Apple to an avalanche of lawsuits from companies that are not doing too well, have some patent that is vaguely related to some Apple product, and would sue Apple in the hope of being bought out.

I was gonna come to the Regent Street store, but I didn't have enough time, so I went to the Kingston Bentall Centre store instead. Got there at 6 but the queue only took 5 minutes and I easily managed to get a t-shirt. When I left at 7 there was still loads more t-shirts, but it had got pretty quiet outside, so I went back in and got another t-shirt. :D

When I said "that's about it," it wasn't a negative thing. When it comes to an iPhone, if they made those enhancements, that's plenty to guarantee another year of success. Especially alongside iOS 5.
If there is any redesign needed, its on the OS side.
iOS needs:
1) Better notifications.
2) Better communication with computers/tablets (the HP idea of syncing the Pre tablet and smartphone by just tapping each other is great. You can already do this on iOS with some 3rd party apps, but Apple implementing it at the OS level would be awesome).
3) Greater app<->app integration. This really needs to improve, IMO.
4) Better file management. (Not a Finder, but getting files onto iOS from a computer, etc., should be easier.)
5) A snazzy new look would also be nice, but not necessary.
6) RFID. I think this is really low in importance, because it will take a while to rollout (well, at least RFID payments...I love the idea of RFID to wake/sync between devices). At least as far as payments go, it will be better if Apple takes their time and does it right, involving all stakeholders to deliver a complete successful product.

We are working on a Facebook status update. Our app so far updates users via Twitter on daily things that get tracked. Glad to see Facebook become more iPhone friendly. If you have anything to track / improve in your life, have a look at Track & Share. Try the lite version for free. All the best to all Facebook fans,

According to her blog she left Microsoft months ago and went to work for (I think) VMWare
Ah, to bad :(
It was helpful to have a shortcut into their Mac development team. I tried to deal with the German support team - which I think is the same that also handles the Windows crowd - and I got the impression that Office for Mac issues are just a tiny blob on their screens.
I got them so far as to acknowledge that they can reproduce the bug in PowerPoint. However they then told me that they can not get through to the people in the US and that even if they could the developers would not listen to them anyway - go figure...

A car that gets 60 mpg will do just as much 'damage' to a road surface as a car that get 8 mpg....but the 50mpg car will pay much, MUCH less for upkeep of that road than the other in a gas-tax based situation.
damage to the road is mostly depending on vehicle weight: the biggest offender actually are trucks/semis
one point to consider: a 40 ton truck doesn't t do the same damage as 40 1 ton cars. it actually does more damage to the surface. that's why it takes only a modest increase in truck traffic to really ruin roads
