Would Apple make a notebook computer with an :apple: logo that doesn't glow?

I think this thread has started to become unraveled. It's a freaking banner with somewhat arbitrarily picked/placed Apple products and software people! It's cool that we got to see Apple's welcome banner, isn't that enough?
But wait, now that you mention it....where the hell is the iPod Radio Remote?
Hahahaha. :)
Welcome to your first WWDC on MacRumors.

No remote? No Photo Booth? That's got to be a deal breaker for a lot of folks. ;)
As for the real world, many professionals have funds to purchase these machines as they will use the speed. It seems to me that most "consumers" are not able or willing to plop down the cash to buy a Mac Pro when an iMac or MacBook or even Mac Mini will more than suit their needs.
No front row and no photo booth was definitely a downer for me. I expect to see iSight 2.0 with better optics and IR sensor built-in released later this year.

I hope isight stays. Maybe on a smaller format.
I have mixed feelings about the built-in isight. For a desktop model I think I rather have the stand alone isight so i can easily move it around.
If they redo the iSight I think it should be either;
Better resolution 1280x1024/720
Wireless - so I can use if on my tv away from my mac for chatting / use it as a security camera / use it as a scanner for the likes of Delicious Monster

If it's shipping in June, even June 30, how can it not be near final form? I mean when a developer tells me s/w is "nowhere near final form" I'm thinking early beta at best. But 2.5 months from release (assume June 30) shouldn't it be in the bug testing phases and everything else locked up?
Because the version that was showed last night isn't even the most up-to-date. It has been said that they have already re-worked a lot of things that aren't in the latest version. That was probably just a stable version they got out the door for a preview.
I don't know how much they're going to fit in the next few months, but we'll see.

They seem to go after just about every niche there is. Just look at the latest news of selling generic prescription drugs for $4 for a 30 day supply. It looks again to be a hook to get people into their stores. They say it covers 300 different drugs, but in reality it is only 124 medicines but in a variety of doses. So they may end up with 12 out of those 300 being different versions of amoxicillin. Some popular drugs aren't included, like Zocor. But all the gullible masses will see is $4 PRESCRIPTIONS!!
There is also a lot of information at wallmartwatch.com.
If it causes other pharmacies to lower prices, all the better. If it causes the big name pharmaceutical labs to lower prices, that's even better. Why should people in the U.S.A. pay the majority of the cost of medication?
This is one instance where Wal-Mart isn't really hurting people, unlike the government.

After applying the update, it seems like it's running cooler. I'm getting 53-54C now, when normally it's 58-59.
My fan is running ALOT, as in most of the time now whereas before it only came on when it really was apparent that the laptop was getting hot on the bottom...hmmm:confused:

New iMacs released :
http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore
Couldnt see it mentioned anywhereYes it's on ours too. (http://www.apple.com/imac/) How come not on the cover of MacRumors!! 24" $1999 2.16GHz Standard with 2.33GHz option for $250 more.
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128MB SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB SDRAM Add $125 NOT DUAL DVI - 1920 x 1200 Max Digital External Support - IE Dual 24" Displays. Analog res support up to 2048 x 1536
"The NVIDIA 7300 GT that comes standard in your 24-inch iMac provides amazing performance for most graphics tasks and games. Upgrade to the NVIDIA 7600 GT with 256MB of video memory if you need additional performance in 3D and graphics-intensive applications such as multiplayer gaming or 3D animation development.
Your iMac also offers built-in support for attaching an external monitor using either of two modes. Extended Desktop mode allows you to work on two monitors at once for increased desktop real-estate (and increased productivity). Video mirroring is useful when presenting, so you can see the same image on a projector that you're seeing on your Apple display."
Supports 2GB Sticks of RAM. Offer one for +$750 - total of 3GB RAM probably could have 4. 667 DDR2 SDRAM. Base is 2 x 512 for 1GB included.
Congratulations on scooping MacRumors phatspider. :D
So loaded with 2.33GHz and 256MB Graphics is only $2374. Not bad. Plus third party RAM.
Maybe the big story here is that a base 1.83GHz with only 2MB L2 cache 17" model with a Combo drive, 512MB ram, Intel GMA 950 64MB IG is only $999. Now that's exciting. BUT for ony $200 more - $1199 - you get Superdrive, 1GB RAM, 2GHz w/4MB L2 cache, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB GDDR3 memory, Bluetooth2.0, Apple Remote. That's a lot mroe stuff for only $200 more so they are making the $999 model very unattractive and low volume seller.
Ironically, the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB GDDR3 memory that supports rotation on an external Dell monitor is not available on the 24" model. NVIDIA does not support Dell Rotation. So if you want to be able to rotate a Dell 24" monitor, you will have to buy the 20" iMac. Now that's crazy!
On sale, Dell 24" Monitors are only about $700. So for $2200 you can have a 20" iMac paired with a 24" External Rotatable Dell.

I'm not sure many would agree with you on that. Apple has always been a hardware company. Just because their software drives their hardware doesn't mean they are software focused. If they were primarily a software company, they would have gone the way of Microsoft and put out MacOS to run on any generic PC box. But we all know their take on that. Just to drive my point home, when was the last time Apple released a piece of software that people went nuts about and stood in lines for hours to get?
Indeed they definitely are a hardware company, that's where all their profit comes from. I think to answer your rhetorical question, 'Leopard', from what I've heard.

I find the timeline in the current iMovie harder to work than some of the older versions. now.
Are you aware you can change the timeline to look like imovie6 HD? My biggest gripe about iMovie 11 is no third party plugins. iMovie 6 can use them though. I'm hoping the next FCE (if there will be one) has the same power as FCP. Yeah, it will be dumbed down but I want a semi pro editor for home use.

I love every bit of this new iTunes... well except for the annoying fact that all the store views now scroll horizontally.

It's not that Apple isn't capable of coming up with a version of iOS that would run well on the 3G hardware. Of course they could if they wanted to. What it comes down to is Apple having to draw a line in the sand and phase out support at some point. They can't keep spending money to develop for it forever. The 3G is nearly 3 years old. I think it has served it's purpose well, and now it's time to let it retire in peace. It's worked a long time and is tired.
Personally I am surprised anyone is holding on to older phones like that. There are such good deals to be found in selling old hardware that will allow you to upgrade every year if you want with little or no expense to do so. When the 3Gs came out, I sold my original iPhone online for $160, so the upgrade only cost me $40 plus tax. It was well worth it. And when iPhone 5 drops this summer, I will do the same thing. Not too shabby if you ask me.
I totally agree. However, the 4.x was sold as a viable update to my phone, and my older iPod Touch was upgraded automatically. Had I known it would have rendered them quite useless, I would have not agreed to the upgrade. Also, there is no way (that I can tell) to downgrade to a previous IOS (I'm not overly geeky). I am not asking for on-going support, rather that the phone that I paid for works for its lifetime. It is Apple's fault for not providing a reasonable explanation of what the consequences would be or providing an alternative to that IOS.

Apples exists to compete with PCs and one of, if not THE major element of that is having the best/fastest hardware! If Apple didn't want to compete with PCs, then they wouldn't make so much out of the MGz myth and say that "Apple Mac X will outperform Wintel X, even with two thirds of the processor speed!".
Apple needs to do something fast, beause virtually forcing schools across America to take on Macs and whining that Microsoft are big bullies isn't going to help them.
Sorry, i'm being a bit extreme, but i wish Apple would hurry up and do something.
PCs are the competition and releasing an update of a product every six months, while the competition is constantly updating, isn't going to work for them for much longer.

Agreed! And one of the reasons Apple isn't working fast enough is because you're all so busy kissing their @ss! Start a petition (http://www.petitiononline.com), write an email, send a fax or even write a letter telling Apple to release the latest batch of Hardware and then get on with moving this company forward.
You guys seem to spend so much time talking, but you take no action!

As for the voice command thing - I don't really care. It's not like it takes that long to press an icon, although it might help some in the cold wiinter when I have gloves on.
it takes many taps to dial an odd number you dont use often.
also, if this rumor is true, it would be for more than just dialing, as that is current tech.

But does the 1GB use one memory slot or two?
As long as the MacBook continues to use integrated graphics, you will never see Apple shipping them with single-memory-stick configurations. Unlike the MacBook Pro, using mismatched memory sticks in a MacBook's slots actually results in a potentially painful performance hit.
That's because, if the memory inserted in all slots are perfectly matched, the memory manager can handle multiple requests at once: one access for each memory slot. The GMA950's memory is ideally all grouped together on one memory stick. This way, one stick will never be tied up servicing the GMA950, so the CPUs will always have exclusive access to it. Only the single "shared" stick ever needs to be deal with possible contention from multiple masters.
If you only have one memory stick, then the CPUs and the GPU will always need to fight each other for their turn at accessing memory.
