IIRC, the Quadro is the same as the 7800, but with a port for a stereo-3D headset.
I've got a 6600 in my PowerMac G5 and it's certainly whisper quiet since it doesn't have a fan. I'm considering an upgrade to an ATI X1900, though. I've got an X1900XT in my Mac Pro at work and I'm more than modestly pleased with it, but the 6600 is more than adequate for what I need at home.
So, the Quadro fx 4500 is noisy like the 7800 GT? I mean, this 7800 GT is noisy as noise is spelt: N O I S E!!

Here you go... my entry is entitled "Newton's Apples"
It's difficult to tell from 75x75 pixels, but it's supposed to be Isaac Newton under a tree, getting bombarded with various "apples" :D

Wow there's so much variety in everyone's preferences. I feel pretty ignorant not even hearing about EE or silverstripe until this thread (also for mixing Ruby on Rails as a CMS rather than a framework :o ) I really enjoy theming in Drupal, although it is a challenge.

General Sentiment is part of an elite team of Mercenary Ex-Servicemen who reside in the shadows of the Los Angeles Underground. The full contingent is:
General Sentiment (Responsible for monitoring morale)
Major Improvement (Morale Uplifts)
Admiral Butterfly (Aesthetics)
Corporal Punishment (Deals with those who lower morale)
Private Practice (deals with those unfortunate enough to have faced Corporal Punishment)
and finally...
Seaman Staines (added to the team only to provide Murdock-style comedy value at the end of each scene).

That's too funny, so it is basically saying, "if apple just ceases all operations, research and development and everyone continues, they will fail." I think they are a bit smarter then that, they might as well of said, "If you stop selling your products, you wont make money."

Hi everyone, I want to try out taiko drum composition on my MacBook Pro. However, I have some questions...well, many questions, actually.
1. This might be a stupid question, but does GarageBand allow me to compose music "from scratch"?
2. What's the difference between GarageBand and Logic Pro?
3. Do I need a keyboard or whatever in order to start composing on Mac?
4. Currently I only have GarageBand (which comes bundled within iLife). I did a search on Google and apparently GarageBand Jam Pack 4 comes with percussion which includes taiko drums. I haven't been able to find any reviews or videos on this, so could anyone tell me how good it is?
(Many things to consider before I decide to commit to getting Jam Pack 4/Logic Pro or whatever...)

If your miniDV has RCA inputs(red/yellow/white), plug VHCS player in, make miniDV dups and transfer to computer via firewire. If your miniDV doesn't have RCA inputs your out of luck without buying more equipment.
This is assuming your using a MAC, some PC laptops have RCA in.

Well, the gaming community definitely gets intense in their er... 'hobby' or lifestyle. They take things berseriously. Like the person who stabbed someone w/ a screwdriver at one exhibition event. And come on, who wouldn't take a 'game' seriously if the prize was sponsored gaming set ups from big companies and free games/software/hardware and even beaucoup cash?! :p You ought to see Japan (and moving into the west). People put up posters of their favorite counter strike guy in the same way you would put up a footie or rugby player. Gamers are the new rockstars. They have entire TV channels showing gaming 24/7.
Er... yeah. You'll either want a card and games that support the native res of the LCD, as then it'll be way cool. However, if not, then get the biggest CRT you can find. The problem with CRTs is that they only go up to 21" (iirc, 19" viewing area, or maybe the 21 is the view area... meh. Either way, not as high as an LCD can go)

If you have a computer that you are able to use in the meantime, sell you MBA over craigslist and make due with the other computer until the refresh comes. If you can get a really good price for your current model then obviously you would only be putting very little cash towards the refresh.
If you DONT have a temp. computer to use, then wait until the refresh and see what it has to offer. You can still sell your MBA over craigslist for a little bit less and put it towards the newer refresh.
For your needs you will be fine with your current model. Since it was a gift you can use whatever money you have saved now and pull the trigger for a whole lot less.
People here successfully buy and sell during every refresh or 2 with very little to shell out for price differences. Take care of your mac, do daily research for MBA news, and make the decision.

Hey I'm looking into buying a preferably new Macbook or Macbook Pro. I need one soon as I'm moving out for my freshman year of college. The two things I'm mainly concerned about is 500+GB, and 4GB Processor. I was wondering what might be some good places to begin looking for the right laptop.
If buying new, from apple.com with the edu discount, or an apple store with the edu discount...

Also, up until a few years ago the portables were limited to 4GB of RAM, so weren't as future proof. But my 3 year old Mac Pro doesn't have that limit, and I'm running 14GB on it. If iMacs or MBPs of the time could have supported more RAM, I would have gone that route instead.
