They force you to make backups instead of being able to go on your account and download everything you bought if you need to again. (That is increased cost on my side, because I have to buy more hardware to do it and need to not only store it but store it again as backup.)
I sympathise with lots of your points, but this one doesn't necessarily stand up.

American foreign policy has indeed come up quite short in the foresight department. However, Khadahphee (or however it gets spelt) rose to power with no real assistance from other countries and has only been supported indirectly, through people buying oil. The only support Libya gets from the US is indirect, from irresponsible excess in oil consumption that keeps the prices up for everyone.

You are still not getting it. It does cost a fraction to build things outside the US.
Ohhh, I get it. Trust me. But there's more to "it" than just a 3-paragraph overview of the entire way the US decides to do business. I think a high percentage of Americans will agree that the business models (taxes, outsourcing, low US manufacturing, unions, wages, health benefits, etc) are basically killing our way of life.
Maybe in 10-15 years the US will finally realize how much damage has been done and will start to get back in shape.

Something tells me that one still using a 3GS isn't likely a must have "latest and greatest" kind of consumer. I had a 3GS which I bought on Day One. ATT let nearly everyone upgrade early to the 4 so I did. It was a no brainer. Why you stuck it out w/ the 3GS I can't say but to be bitching and moaning Apple doesn't upgrade fast enough like you are is silly. If you only upgrade every 3 years what difference would more frequent upgrades possibly make in your life? I think you protesteth too much.
I am still on a 3GS and no ATT did NOT offer me any kind of early upgrade deal so I chose to spend what money I had on an iPad. I am not complaining - I'm just saying. My contract just came up and I was really looking forward to getting a new iPhone this year but now I am worried about upgrading to a small time iPhone4 refresh and being trapped into another two year contract when everyone upgrades to a fancy new iPhone5 next year.

What's with the focus on 'sold out'? Simply limit your passes well below the projected numbers of participants, and there you go, sold out. It's just a math game and a marketing ploy.
There is no "focus" on sold out.
It is just mentioned to show the interest in Apple by developers.
If you never organized an event, here is (in a simplified way) how it goes:
You find a place an a location/facility based on what you estimate the attendance will be.
(Sometimes you can't even get a facility big enough and have to take what you can get)
That facility will hold a certain amount of people
You promote the event and sell tickets.
Eventually you will sell out or have tickets left over.
No magic in holding back tickets or use smaller facilities to make it look sold out.
There is also a point where too many people would not be able to learn efficiently what is coming.
Why not pack 80,000 developers into New York's Giants Stadium?

My new iPad was at the local FedEx distribution center, 2 miles from my house, only to be returned to Apple at Apples request. I provided them with my UPS Store PMB (Private Mail Box) number because I was out of town when it arrived. Someone had to sign. I couldn't leave it on my porch. I don't know my neighbors well enough. The folks at the UPS store could sign, right? Wrong. Because UPS has the ability to ship overseas, Apple refused to deliver.
I travel for my job. My wife does, as well. Apple's Shipping Restrictions web page states they will not ship to PO Boxes and APO's. No mention of PMB's.
So 21 days after announcement, my iPad was 2 miles from my hands. It's gone.
Apple said Sorry, you'll have to reorder. It's only another 5 weeks before I can get one. They would not expedite a new order. They would not hold the iPad at the FedEx distribution center. Too bad for me. I'm fuming. I'm pissed.
I reordered from AT&T. Wait time 25 business days. I won't give Apple all the profit they would have enjoyed. I know. Big deal. I'm not a profiteer. Not trying to subvert their ordering system. Too bad. I'm screwed.
I understand why they refused to deliver. But, no phone call, no alternative delivery option, no expedited order, no option.
Bad customer service. I've spent $6,000 with them over the last three years. So what? Who cares.

But wait! Doesn't Apple's miniscule market-share mean that hackers won't target Macs because there is nothing to be gained? Better off targeting the 95% of Windows-running machines out there? I think this story proves again that the "security through obscurity" argument is just a myth. :)
I wasn't disputing the fact that Apple doesn't have it's share of problems with security. Everyone is sick of hearing Windows problems so as soon as a problems arises with Apple, Linux, UNIX, etc everyone jumps on it.

Sorry, just stating facts. Flash is a horribly inferior technology and has crippled the web from a much greater potential. I honestly have not missed it at all on my iPhone and I block it with ClickToFlash on my Macs. I would GLADLY forgo Flash if Apple can kill it forever. Web developers need to use approved open standards and stop using Flash as a crutch. And if by Apple's own image, you mean far superior open standards that are approved by the W3C, then yes! :rolleyes:

(In my testing on OS 10.6.1, Safari is by far the worst of all browsers at handling Flash: it pushes the CPU to 77%, while Firefox and Camino stay at less than 49%. Safari is also by far the worst on Windows 7, where on the same video it runs to almost 30% of CPU, while IE8 is at 1%, and Firefox and Chrome are at 4%.
The vast majority of users enjoy what Flash provides.
And, Flash does things which would be impossible, or very hard, or prohibitively expensive, to do with other currently available technologies, and deploy them for all browsers and systems.
So, I repeat: the rest of the world DOES NOT care, that you, and a handful of weird backroom guys, have an irrational hatred of Flash. Move on.
The bottom line is, if Apple doesn't get Flash on the iPhone, it will quickly lose market share to Android. It's a HUGE missing feature, bigger than cut/paste and turn-by turn navigation and mms rolled together, and you can bet it will be advertised as such.

The Constitution was set up almost as if to stop one person from being able to take up to war on a whim. Well, if Obama has that right, then George Bush III, or whoever will push the limits of his powers even further. I guess that's the power of precedence. If you look at the Constitution, it vests in the Congress the exclusive power to declare war. Things just have a way of changing. I thought Bush was bad enough with Iraq. Now Obama's actions are even worse than Bush's. Obama didn't even put up the charade of making a case.
It's fascinating how quickly the Democrat party has turned into the party of war... trying to justify it legally and morally at every corner. It's almost as if their anti-war stance for the past 10 years was a complete farce, and was more anti-Bush than anti-war, anti-intervention. Now that Obama is at the helm, core philosophy no longer matters, consistent morality no longer matters, only justifying war and protecting the political future of the first black president.

So much of our budget problems are due our desire to rule the world through our military. No other solution makes as big an impact as drastically scaling back our "defense" spending.

The closest apple store to my town (population 48k) is over a hour away - we have two radio shacks. How is this low? an elitist much? This is great! - Ipad 2's are the same price everywhere, except AAFES where its $10 cheaper and tax free. - Now many people can save their hard earned money as gas approaches $4 a gallon under this administration. Besides some people have radio shack credit cards -and earn rewards. They may prefer to buy from there.
