Yes but if you enter an appointment in iCal then the system could cache the required data before you leave wifi range. Most your adhoc travel is going to be your home city right. So it could have a cache of your home city in high detail in a couple of hundred Meg right?

United Kingdom + Ireland on TomTom is 166 MB. Complete USA is 770 MB, complete Europe about 1000 MB. Maps are a lot smaller than you seem to think.

$150 is steep. This reveal is also surprising - I thought they weren't gonna disclose their pricing plans until fall?

that guy who blends stuff should be sent to an underdeveloped country and be thrown in the middle of the street with no food and in danger of getting raped by 4 bear bikers...that guy and the whole production behind that stupidity should get a hard lesson on hard work ethics to realize they are wasting money on machines that could've been useful for someone not so fortunate..shame on these people.

    Calm down.

[Macworld reports (http://www.macworld.com/2006/11/firstlooks/rosetta/index.php) that based on their benchmarks, Apple's Rosetta PowerPC emulation technology for Intel Macs...
    Please...

"Rosetta" is Apple's cute marketing name for their rebranding of Transitive's "QuickTransit" technology".

    http://www.transitive.com/

So, of course, Apple and Transitive engineers have been working together to improve the performance.

But, please, don't call it "Apple's technology" unless you say "technology that Apple is licensing". Lots of interesting stuff comes from outside 10700 N. De Anza Blvd, Cupertino, CA (the real address for 1 Infinite Drive). Which, btw, I've only driven by 3 times this week...

    It's not a security hole.

That can be debated. It's a form of information leak that can be leveraged to generate personal information about you. It's a privacy concern but not a primary one. Just like an elevation exploit is a security concern, but not a primary one (as you already need some other access to the machine).

Privacy and security are so intertwined these days that you can't have privacy without security backing it up, thus you can argue any privacy hole is also a security hole.

I would have said "uhhhh, I'm not giving you my (lets say you have 13.3" ultimate mba) $1600 MacBook Air. I'll shut it down and put it in my locker if its that big of a deal."

Will it still be able to run on a 32-Bit Mac?

I have my doubts. Apple seems to have only mentioned 64-bit. That doesn't mean they can't or won't support 32-bit, but I suspect they look at this as their chance to drop old 32-bit technology. Internally it would mean that they wouldn't have to maintain 32-bit code. That would be great for their developers.

They also didn't mention the OS X requirements. Given the June release date I'm leaning towards a Lion (OS X 10.7) requirement which so far requires 64-bit hardware. Late June would be Summer and Apple has said that Lion will ship in Summer of this year. Releasing Lion 2-3 weeks after the big developer conference, WWDC, sounds aggressive, but Lion has been in developers hands for some now.

As much as the White iPhone 4 is sexy, I guess my dream of an Aluminum-back iPhone 4 is shattered... At least for the time being. I would love to see a white front with aluminum backing...

When was that ever on the cards?

I bet they make some of that back with deals made with the power companies. These things need to be plugged in.

Not really, but it would be stupid for a buyer not to though.

    Netflix advantages:
    ...

    Apple disadvantages:
    ...
    - their servers are located in the USA, so I don't know if it's enough to serve streaming media worldwide. Do they currently have servers in other countries for the international iTunes Stores?
    ...

Yeah, We need to see confirmation that there are similar Data Centers being deployed around the world. I guess Europe would be next. But the Apple TVs do seem to cache the stream for a bit before playing the video so maybe that alone can compensate for the lag users would otherwise experience by streaming from North Carolina Servers. If the Buffer can hold a few minutes and you have a good internet connection then you should get a great viewing experience.

    Obviously not.

The point is, Apple doesn't need to release the iPhone 5 yet. They think can keep wooing us with a third iteration of the iPhone 4.

Exactly... they know they have majority of the market share.

Yup, Wednesday at 3:00 was suggested as the "big" meeting, though somebody mentioned the the Best of Show announcements are taking place that day from 2:45 - 3:45. Does anyone feel strongly about changing the time to avoid this conflict? (I don't.)

Is Wednesday the consensus? I think it could be 4pm to catch people coming out of the Best of Show.

Alternative, is Tuesday out? One advantage of Tuesday is that people will know what everyone looks like if they see them around at the subsequent events.

Once it's nailed down, I'll make a more public announcement.

    What planet are you from?!?!

2-5% market share is "fine" as long as you don't need developers, application programs, component parts for new products (why should Intel, Ati or NVidia sell any of their "hot" new products for very long to such a tiny niche market!), compatibility with other electronic devices (TiVos, printers, cameras, etc.), ... the list goes on and on! (And don't even get into gaming, which still drives alot of computer sales!)

    iBorg

I don't know, but Intel seems to be selling Apple all the processors they want, and even are working with them to produce special applications for Apple's needs, NVidea seems to be selling cards to them, too...

Apple has been even more compatible with periperals then Windows ever dreamed of, tho TiVo for some reason IS a hold-out. But then there have always been companies that held out, and Apple gets by just fine.

The gaming market is one Apple apparantly isn't concerned about yet, and probably won't be for a while, at least until they are well into gains in the consumer market... which has more potential than the gamers do.

So, yeah, 5% IS fine, which has been Apple's position for quite a while, after all, aren't they making money for their shareholders hand over fist?

What part of "record sales" isn't clear?
