Apparently, Blu-ray doesn't function seamlessly yet. :rolleyes::D
You know it. ;)
It kind of hammers the nail with regards to LTE on an iPhone this year doesn't it though?

Oh come on. How often do we actually have to access our optical drives? While you may do so often, many of us almost never do and would be happy to attach an external drive every now and then or even access the disc we need over the network.
The optical drive in my laptop broke a few months ago. I haven't missed it much. The one time I did need it, I hooked up my external drive, so it is necessary to have one.

The pricing was taken off a Canadian website. Are these Canadian Dollar prices? If so, expect the US Dollar prices to be somewhat lower.

Ok, but they are only utilizing Moscone West. Why not rent West and North, South or all three. That would allow them to expand without moving.
Perhaps there's something about the North Hall and South Hall facilities that don't meet Apple's approval.
There's also a possibility that Apple is at a human resources limit for staffing the event. Many of the hands-on individual sessions probably scale poorly. Perhaps most of the qualified engineers are there and throwing extra bodies doesn't improve the event. Apple's engineering team is very small for a company of its size.
It's not like Apple can bring aboard the holiday part-time help from the local retail stores to help teach developers how to utilize the CoreLocation API.
Since Apple has participated in large tradeshows before and have been successfully running the WWDC for years, I assume they have looked at various factors before signing these Moscone Center contracts.

You really think the Revolutionary War was unnecessary? How else would you have proposed separating from Britain?
What war did Canada have to fight to separate from Britain?

Beatles are not my generation so I don't know a lot about them..but weren't they into free spirits and happiness and what not? Why are they all about suing and being greedy now?
Edit: which of them are even alive anymore to profit? Or is this the doing of their heirs?
Two are alive and they have wives and kids and in one case grandkids. As a parent I would love to pass on what I created and/or earned to my son. Most parents would love to do this for their families if possible, whether it is a huge amount or a small amount. Again when you have created any business, large or small, it is the owners legal right and obligation to protect it and prosper. That is capitalism.
I work representing photographers and license the work they create and rarely sell it outright. This way my artists who create the work, can benefit from reusage sort of like a royalty.
It is so easy to go after the bands, actors and artists once they hit it big, but they would not make all of that money if there was not an audience for it.

Surely Apple can't combine everything into something like (this) Or can they?
...Everything from 100% full screen to virtual keys, to selecting different modalities depending on orientation(!), to sensitivity to force of touch, to squeezing, to miniDVD drive, to ....
the exciting part is how do-able this seems to be. My Treo has a touch sensitive screen. The whole screen can view photos. Or, depending on which other mode you're in--phone dialing? contact search?--a touch on a part of the screen might dial a "2" or select a single contact and display its data; squeezing's already incorporated into the mighty mouse; some of the other features, like different responses depending upon how many fingers touch the screen, already operate on the MBP and MB touchpads, and the linking of different modes (a la phone and contact/pda are already linked on my Treo. Etc., etc.
In fact, maybe the question might be how different the apple patent is from what the Treo does: The treo screen displays icons that can be selected by touch to select a contact manager, or a phone mode, or picture viewer, or web browser, etc., and in each of those modes the various sections of the screen display touch-sensitive choices unique to that mode.
At any rate, I don't know if this multi-featured device is the subject of apple's sept 12 announcement. But i think apple has the potential to incorporate the features of this patent into hugely significant new device(s). The applications are all too obvious. I hope they do. Steve Jobs has always seemed disinclined to offer any product that's just a lot like existing hardware, thus the lack of an iPhone. The ability to incorporate phone and music player and video viewer and....(?) create the opportunity for apple to again be a pioneer--to introduce to us products we didn't realize we wanted, or that do things others had done but in dramatically better ways--as he did with the iPod.

I think they'll keep the Classic around until the iPod Touch exceeds 100GB. And I'm guessing that will happen in September.
Of course, I've been guessing that will happen "in September" for about 3 years running now.

Dell sells computers with Linux preloaded, but I don't see Linux making any dent in anyones armor.
i think that that used to be the case, but no longer. back when w2k and xp was released, linux wasn't ?ready?. for experts, yes, but not normal folks. over the last two years that changed dramatically.. and over the last few years i have seen linux pop up in oddest places, like in an internet -terminals in hotels. previously they ran windows.
looking at features, windows is way behind linux, vista included. and looking at apps, windows doesn't offer anything that linux doesn't, for free. well, maybe games.

The thing that's frustrated me with Apple is the long wait for even minor product updates. The Merom update across the line should be a no brainer especially since the chip is more efficient and is easy to implement. Almost every other manufacturer announced Merom laptops already. Knowing Apple though, they'll just drag it out without mercy and only do the Merom updates in January for Macworld. In the meantime, we'll all be wondering if perhaps next week would be the right time to buy a new notebook because of some hot new rumor. Very frustrating. Now that Apple has switched to Intel, why not do chip updates without the fanfare that accompanied the minor PowerPC updates?

I would rather Apple do iPhone5 right then be pressured to release it at the typical release cycle.
Give me 4" screen, NFC, dual core A9 and a gig of ram. LTE is not a huge deal since it will probably not be deployed widespread.

A couple years ago, 4G meant LTE. Now it means HSPA+. I have no doubt that the next iPhone will be 4G capable, but it won't be LTE. I doubt that delaying the typical launch would have anything to do with including 4G.

well defending a country doesn't equal "having the capability to blow up another country thousands miles away". For many european countries, apart of France and Britain, it never was needed because they lacked colonies
also todays political realites need to be kept in mind: after german reunification and the fall of the warsaw pact, an aweful lot of armies were simply way to overblown. With the EU expansions even more: what is the point of keeping thousands of tanks when there is no country next to you which has even close the capability to be a danger to you and neither has any motivation for a military attack.
It's not their fault that the US is still stuck in cold war spending.

Honestly? I think the ENTIRE desktop line (iMac, Mac Mini, etc.) would probably get this before a laptop would get it. :(
And P.S. - Apple, your laptop line is already to expensive. Don't release a consumer product that only rich companies can buy. :(

As for the voice command thing - I don't really care. It's not like it takes that long to press an icon, although it might help some in the cold wiinter when I have gloves on.
it takes many taps to dial an odd number you dont use often.
also, if this rumor is true, it would be for more than just dialing, as that is current tech.

Hum this is brilliant marketing.
The subscription price serves as an anchor price that makes you feel the regular price is cheaper, hence more buying are expected at regular price.
What people don't understand is that the rental prices are beneficial for new startup design firms or freelance creative professionals to get started right away in an affordable price UNTIL they have money or better credit to make a full purchase by that time. Adobe, I think, is doing the right thing here.
I do not condone piracy or stealing off Adobe products JUST because they're expensive. The software is NOT a kiddie doodle app for hobbyists. This is PRO level we are talking here.
